To think a mini moon at Xmas is depressing?

Posting for traffic. DP and my income is looking uncertain until the new year when he starts a new job. We are getting married at Xmas and our although we'd love to go off on honeymoon straight away we can't afford it, so we are planning to go in the Spring when things are more secure.
Any ideas for a mini moons / alternative that won't feel like a let down over Christmas week? It's our 1st Christmas celebrating as a couple without families - we had already booked time off work ready to go away, and our DC will be at MIL for a week! We'd like to go somewhere but within a budget, and as it's Christmas where we spend the actual day is a consideration.

what about somewhere like here? they have hotel rooms and also 'escape pods'

Are you looking for somewhere abroad or the Uk?

I’d hole up in a cottage in the lakes with a fireplace, lots of lovely red wine and food to eat. And hope for snow

We did the same. Married in December and flew out on our honeymoon the next day. We only went to Tenerife for 6 days, we did fly back on Christmas Eve and honestly it was the best decision!

It was very strange lazing round the pool in a bikini with ‘White Christmas’ in the background but it was just what we needed. After all the stress of the wedding we slept like the dead and just enjoyed not having to do anything.

I think it was about £800 for the 6 days and that was half board. We had our proper honeymoon in the spring too!

Everyone was in a very joyful mood too, thinking of the poor buggers at home in the rain

We went to Paris for Christmas and it was lovely. We stayed in an apartment in the 3rd arrondissement so we were close enough to walk to most places. We bought our own food for evening meals and Christmas dinner. We went up the Eiffel Tower on Christmas morning, it was really nice and so quiet on the streets. It felt like we had the place to ourselves in the morning! I'd really recommend it for a Christmas break.

RJ Budget would probably be 1500 tops.

We are not keen on the canaries or that sort of beach holiday as we are hoping our actual honeymoon will be in the sun. So we are looking for either UK, or possibly a city, if affordable and if there are options for Christmas Day.

Id spend a couple of nights in a lovely hotel and save the rest to put towards your honeymoon . I don’t understand the mini moon ? thing ? If money is not stable at the moment I wouldn’t be splashing out£1500 on a week away .

We did 5 days in Iceland the week before Christmas for about £1400. Flights were cheap and we ate at cheaper places, but we went for a very central Reykjavik hotel, and used most of our spending money on daytrips & going horseriding. If you like snow you'll love it!

You're leaving your dc with mil for a week over Christmas whilst money is tight?

I’m with a previous poster- If you are having a honeymoon in spring then what’s the point of the week away over Christmas? I don’t get it? And how old are your kids? I think it’s a bit shitty shipping them off to your MILS for Christmas to be honest !

We married in November and had 3 nights away at a log cabin with a hot tub in Scotland. It was bliss, Complete relaxation (I hadn't even realised I'd been a bit stressed in the run up to the wedding!)

spend christmas with your kids and go on holiday in the spring. come on-it's not like you need to go away and learn how to be husband and wife which is the purpose of a honeymoon-you've already got kids!

I’d go to a cottage somewhere beautiful, with a log fire, nice walks and a nice pub with live music not too far away.

Then I’d load up the car with lovely food and M&S easy peasy Christmas food, a big pile of books and a case of wine.

I’d have long mornings in bed with my new DH, take long walks coming home via the pub and then laze away the evenings by the fire.

Being dumped at Granny's for Christmas sounds like a lovely memory for your children to cherish. Save the cash and use it for therapy later.

Another one confused by money is tight so we're blowing £1500 over the Xmas break whilst someone else has the kids.

However, to answer I'd suggest somewhere like The Lakes, get a little cottage with an open fire, do a parred down Xmas lunch, lots of wine and nibbles

UnderHerEye I think we were looking forward to the special time together immediately after the wedding, and in particular we’ve never had Christmas just the 2 of us, even before DC so thought let’s take the chance. DC is 15 and keen to be at the MILs large house where she has a bigger room than in her own house, and will be with all her cool older cousins.
