AIBU?
The princess and the wizard -Julia Donaldson
pocketdoor · 27/09/2018 20:14
Not one of her best. My god it goes on, and it doesn't even rhyme. And it's boring. And the plot is actually quite shit.
Aibu to give it to the charity shop and hope my toddler doesn't notice? Would rather read What the Ladybird Heard for the 177th time.
EsmesBees · 27/09/2018 20:17
Agree. Not one of her best. Haven't read it for a while as even the three year old finds it tedious
TheFifthKey · 27/09/2018 20:18
It’s so long! I like Zog better and the princess is far more interesting too.
astoundedgoat · 27/09/2018 20:19
Hated it. But if you're careful you can read every second page fairly seamlessly, just watch out for the summary at the end.
Ditto the mermaid one.
GirlCroosh · 27/09/2018 20:19
YANBU. Straight to the charity shop. Hate this long weird boring book. DD can't sit through it either.
NCagainandagain · 27/09/2018 20:20
I've not read the princess and the wizard but I've never got the fuss about JD. I liked Snail and the Whale but find the rhyming weird in loads of them and often whizz through them just to get to the end.

Oh I love the mermaid one!
The seagulls flapped and the seashells clapped! Or something.
WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 27/09/2018 20:20
There are several fairly shit Julia Donaldson books. Tiddler is particularly rubbish. We’ve just had Tabby McTat for the 100th night in a row. I’m really starting to hate that fucking cat.
HiGunny · 27/09/2018 20:22
Oh I hate reading that one, it is really tedious! We have loads of JD and I think most of the others are great. But that one was accidentally 'lost' in our house.
pocketdoor · 27/09/2018 20:23
Paper dolls is one of my faves. The toddler never wants to read it though.
Tiredtomybones · 27/09/2018 20:23
It annoys me when (I think) in Stickman the words laugh and scarf are supposed to rhyme. Not in my accent they don't! I just sound weird saying "larf" especially as I'm not even a native speaker of English, so go whoopsie on a few words anyway.
NastyCats · 27/09/2018 20:24
Snail and the Whale and Sharing a Shell are great but the rest not so much. I don't actually even like The Gruffalo...
NastyCats · 27/09/2018 20:25
Oh, and Paperdolls is one I think adults like but children don't. It made my daughter really sad.
EsmesBees · 27/09/2018 20:25
There is one of her's called the Everywhere Bear that simply doesn't scan. I hate reading it as I'm constantly tripping over words. I do love Room on the Broom and Paper Dolls though
pocketdoor · 27/09/2018 20:27
Yeah I remember the first time I read paper dolls to dd and being like "oh! He actually snipped them! Oh!"
londonrach · 27/09/2018 20:30
Squash and squeeze best one. Agree tiddler and mermaid are boring.
AppleKatie · 27/09/2018 20:34
tiddler is amazing! A favourite here.
Maybe we’re boring people? We don’t have many though, so maybe we have yet to see the best...
weeboysmummy · 27/09/2018 20:35
Love paper dolls too, we've not read it in ages. Back to stick man for the moment, for the hundredth time! I always think tabby mctat takes too long to get through at bedtime!
user1471426142 · 27/09/2018 20:35
There is a lot of love for the mermaid in our house at the moment. I’m loving it because we’ve had what the lady bird heard constantly for the last 2 months. The princess and the wizard is rubbish though. That has been relegated to the general box of crap in my daughters bedroom rather than the bookshelf.
SaucyJack · 27/09/2018 20:37
They’re all boring at shit, lets be honest. I hate them all.
PristineCondition · 27/09/2018 20:38
I worked in early year and have read paperdolls thousands of times, my throat thickens and I have to blink back tears every time
Love squash and a squeeze and room on the broom
Teenytinyvoice · 27/09/2018 20:40
Day monkey night monkey winds me up - the last page seems to have an extra line and I just can’t read it right.
I will let her off though because so many of her books are such fun to read and the cds are pretty good in the car
