Not one of her best. My god it goes on, and it doesn't even rhyme. And it's boring. And the plot is actually quite shit.

Aibu to give it to the charity shop and hope my toddler doesn't notice? Would rather read What the Ladybird Heard for the 177th time.

Superworm I began to enjoy only after realising that large passages of it scan perfectly to be sung to the opening sections of the Can Can tune. For the wizard bit you switch to a minor key.

Tabby McTat makes me cry. When he's all alone and when they are reunited. So sad!

We love princess and wizard too - great funny voice opportunity. Gruffalo is a bit boring though.

I like JD - not all but most. Can anyone recommend me some good children’s authors for 4 and 6 year olds? We seem to pick up a lot of dirge at the local library.

Nothing is worse than Princess Mirrorbelle. Dreadful. Princess and the wizard a close second. I love all the rest.

We have a large collection of JD books. After my DM passed away, I couldn't read Paper Dolls the whole way through, it is a lovely book. My favorites are Sharing a Shell, Monkey Puzzle, Squash and a Squeeze, The Singing Mermaid, Snail and the Whale, Tabby McTat and Stickman. Agree about Princess and the Wizard and also the Rhyming Rabbit - i find that pretty tedious.

I generally love Julia Donaldson... but fuck cold giraffes wearing scarves that don't bloody rhyme however you mangle the words in my accent.

If Zog's on at Christmas that's my Christmas sorted between that and the Cbeebies Panto we've just got tickets for... god at one point I'd have been living it up and drunk the entire festive season - now I'm excited by kids' TV.

Love Room on the Broom most of all because the first class I taught had it as their absolute favourite book and they were the most lovely bunch of kids so it's bound up with loads of memories from me.

And with DD2's speech issues - Stick Man takes on a slightly sinister alter ego where he could possibly have a career in adult movies when she can't say "st"

I like Room on the Broom and Monkey Puzzle. Most of the others are boring, repetitive and too long. I think the story lines are quite clever, but my kids get bored with the same lines used over and over again. I enjoyed the film they made of stick man, but the book, like most of hers, is tedious.

There is also a Gruffalo lying face down in the rubbish tip in Superworm.

YANBU. I find her books tedious to read.
