Ocado siding with misogynists and agreeing that the word "woman" and its dictionary definition is hate speech

Mumsnetters in their droves are abandoning Ocado after they sided with advertising company, Primesight, for removing Standing for Women's billboard in Liverpool. The billboard was a very simple dictionary definition of the word "woman." This has been declared homophobic and hate speech by Dr. Harrop who demanded the billboard be removed.
Since when did the very word, "woman" equal transphobic hate speech?
Posie Parker, the woman behind Standing for Women, was on Sky News this afternoon with Dr. Harrop defending the rights of women and the right to call ourselves women.
Shares in Ocado have gone down today and the company amidst a torrent of cancellations have said they will issue a statement today. So far they haven't done so but all their tweets saying Primesight reflected their company values have been deleted along with the many comments that followed.
Is it unreasonable to boycott Ocado for publicly showing themselves to be against women, who after all are their target consumer group? Scores of posters on the feminist boards don't think so but I'd love to hear the opinions of those outside of the feminist boards.

The whole reason it was put on a billboard is that you know it will offend some people. Why else do it?

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/09/2018 22:08

Surely Ocado reflects it's misogynistic boss. A man who attended the infamous President's Club.Hmm www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-5359433/I-wish-hadnt-gone-Presidents-Club-says-Ocado-boss.html

The Ocado definition of a woman:
Creature that exists for profit making purposes and to be gawped at and groped by men.

Gracexox · 26/09/2018 22:09

It’s very common to characterise assertiveness as aggression when it comes to women’s behaviour 🙄

Gracexox · 26/09/2018 22:10

The whole reason it was put on a billboard is that you know it will offend some people. Why else do it?
People who are offended by dictionary definitions need psychological help so that they are capable of accepting the reality which we all inhabit.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/09/2018 22:10

I can see why such a poster could be construed as thought provoking tillytopknots, but how can the definition of Woman be offensive?Confused Who was offended by it?Confused

PerverseConverse · 26/09/2018 22:11

tillytopknots how is a dictionary definition and biological fact offensive?

OP posts:
TheElementsSong · 26/09/2018 22:11

Doesn’t “aggressive” in this context mean “not sufficiently submissive and obsequious to our male superiors”?

RandomlyChosenName · 26/09/2018 22:11

I don't understand what that dictionary definition of a woman would affect someone who is trans. Dont trans women believe they are adult human females also, so why is there a problem? Or do they think of themselves are women but not females?

Gracexox · 26/09/2018 22:13

It seems like only one lone man was offended by it anyway?

tillytopknots · 26/09/2018 22:14

What other dictionary definitions do you feel necessary to put on a billboard?

Gracexox · 26/09/2018 22:15

None right now, you?

PlantsArePeopleToo · 26/09/2018 22:16

Dont trans women believe they are adult human females also, so why is there a problem?

Good point.

Jsoosty · 26/09/2018 22:16

I am losing my shit on Twitter over Adrian Harrop The more men like him try to tell us to be quiet, the worse it’s going to get.

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 22:20

The whole point was to show how men are trying to silence women, and not allowing them to have even one word for themselves.

Aggressive, assertive, nasty? The reactions are just proving that point.

What is the word to describe those humans that used to be called women? If you cannot even define yourself with a word from the dictionary you are proving the point that transactivism is just pure misogyny.

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 22:21

Dont trans women believe they are adult human females also, so why is there a problem?

Exactly, proving they don't think of themselves as women at all..weird that.

Gracexox · 26/09/2018 22:22

I know people like to have a bun fight and argue the toss on aibu but I struggle to believe that any woman could honestly have a problem with this. It’s pretty much the blandest, most uncontroversial fact of humanity.

We all know what a women is. We all came out of one.

StroppyWoman · 26/09/2018 22:23

tillytopknots
The reason for putting a definition of the word is to draw attention to the campaign to redefine what being a woman actually is.
We have different experiences, classes, ages, races, political groups, cultures, beliefs, abilities and needs. We are lesbian, straight or bi; we cannot have children or choose not to have children or are mothers and grandmothers. We're young and old.
What unites us is our biology.
We are women in a patriarchy.
Our womanhood isn't something we can take on and off like an outfit

ChasingGhosts · 26/09/2018 22:27

I think the boycott has been fantastic and I was extremely shocked to hear of what's happened.

Safe to say I sent Ocado a long email asking them to clarify their company values, and telling them I won't spend a penny there if they continue to support the infringement of women's rights.

littlebillie · 26/09/2018 22:30

Ocado has deleted tweets I think they are terrified OED #hatespeech 🙈

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 22:30

Me too, no answer yet though.

LaGruffaloGrumble · 26/09/2018 22:31

Doesn’t “aggressive” in this context mean “not sufficiently submissive and obsequious to our male superiors”?

Absolutely this.

I don’t shop in Ocado (not that posh ;)) but am so glad to see the response their pious tweet has received.

Now going to try and find the Sky News video.

LenGoodmansPickledWalnuts · 26/09/2018 22:32

YANBU. I find it offensive that people find the definition of woman offensive. Weird.

AlphaBravo · 26/09/2018 22:36

@tillytopknots there is only one side to this argument - science.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/09/2018 22:41

Ocado and DrShock H have just been bitten on the arse by their own ridiculous virtue signalling.Grin

Blush for yis lads.GrinGrinGrin
