To cut my own hair?

I have seen some YouTube tutorials were people cut their own hair. End result looks quite good if am honest I know it won't be nowhere as good as if I went to a salon but money is a bit tight lately (car purchase then mot needed work doing then bloody vandals smashed the windscreen all within 2 months

I have ordered hair scissors might get a box dye as well? Has or does anyone cut there own hair is long midway down my back not too thin but not thick at all.

I still think about the mumsnet DIY haircut and wonder if I should have a go. I hope I don't do it on impulse one time - I've made enough of a mess of my fringe!

I always to my own fringe anyway am going to go for it when my scissors arrive

I cut mine, originally a few inches off but now just a trim to keep it neat. I’m not assuming it’s perfect but nobody studies my hair enough to notice/care

Did it this afternoon funnily enough. Looks fine. I’ve got thick long hair anyhow so can rarely tell if it’s been done. I’m happy with it.

I have done layers and they worked really well. You are limited in what you can do. It worked well for me because it suits my face structure. I haven't tried fringe.

I cut mine i do the mumsnet hair cut, my hair is long and curly thpugh it hides a multitude of sins Smile

I've cut my own hair for years now. I'm just not a fan of the hairdresser and it's not as hard as it might seem. My hair is not something I'm precious about though and I'm always aware I could mess it but I don't think I ever left a hairdresser happy so doing it myself is preferable.

I cut mine a few weeks back with he guidance of a tutorial I Googled.

Luckily I have very thick hair so noone's noticed the big chunks missing. I daren't go to the hairdresser now Grin

I bought some scissors too and got my husband to cut it straight all the way round, it's long anyway so can't go too far wrong (or could be fixed if it looks terrible!) he did it pretty well and it keeps the ends healthy looking without costing a fortune!!

Also Im a fan of box due, my roots need doing too often to afford salon prices! Like the root touch up ones so don't have to do the whole hair all the time.

I cut my hair for years with the kitchen scissors. Nobody ever seemed to notice. Then last year I thought I'd get a hairdresser to do it - she said she had been nervous when she'd heard I cut it myself, but actually it was pretty good! Go for it, I say. What's the worst that could happen? Wink

I hack mine off on a fairly regularly basis. It grows quickly and it's very thick. I also hate people touching my head/neck so you see my problem.

It'll grow back and a ponytail hides lots of sins 😄

Oh forgot to add. I have hairdressing scissors downstairs. Upstairs were garden secateurs. You can guess which I used 😂😂

I have been cutting my own hair for years.

The Mumsnet cut made it a real mess though as if I had been sitting behind a hedge when someone cut it.

Try the rubber band method or get a set of Crea clips unless you want layers, in which case you might need to take it carefully.

I haven't been to a hair dresser in decades. My adult kids have never been to one. I just do the cut where you put your hair in a pony tail (in your hands) and pull it over your head to the front and then pick a point and cut a couple inches off. Fringe I do when it needs it, either the collect it and twist so you get curved down the sides or just a straight and then pull it up directly straight and trim some off so it's a layered cut.

I just use whatever scissors I can find.

Go for it MrsMotherHen though personally speaking I think I've sometimes "self-harmed" via my hair, if that makes sense to anyone else?

I have cut it myself. It is hard to position the scissors looking at yourself in the mirror, everything is opposite. I used a bobbin like on Youtube. It was OK, as money was tight, it took much longer. I would not do it again.

The Mumsnet haircut worked well for me. I was impressed. The best approach is to cut off less than you think you want to cut...

If money is tight and you live in a larger town then I would check if there are any training salons- I used to get my hair cut by students doing their advanced training certificates for £5 at Toni & Guy, only draw back was it took about 2 hours but I always got a beautiful cut.
