So i know i am being precious but am still a little irked by the fact that one of the ladies from my ante-natal class has gone and taken our baby name! I know there are hundreds of people out there with the same name, but we've known for months that we are having a boy and what we are going to call him. This lady (albeit a lovely lady at that) went and had her baby early (grrr and only a 3 hours labour - how unfair is that - lucky girl ) and has proceeded to name her baby boy (which she didn't know she was having) our baby name. Not only that - but the same initials for the middle name too!

Now, i know iam being unreasonable but still - i fancied a moan and letting it all out.

Big fat raspeberries to early easy births and taking baby names. pfffffffffffffffffffffffft!

I feel a little better

Aargh - I feel your pain - my psycho ex-SIL and I had a conversation many years ago about girl's names and I said how much I liked Freya and Eden and I would call my little girl one of them if I ever had one.

3 years down the line, she has an affair, leaves BIL, has other man's baby and names it... Freya Eden.

Still, by the time I got round to having dd I'd gone off Freya completely, so I didn't care by then, but at the time - ooh, I was livid!!

Oh, and I was one of twelve Lovecats in my class at school - there were 3 of us alone in the delivery room, born on the same day!

quint · 08/06/2007 19:13

wow - lovecat's such an unusual name

Weegle · 09/06/2007 18:08

We had ours copied after DS was born. Another member of our antenatal class was actually going to call their DS one thing but changed their mind at the last minute when they heard what we had called DS! Now that is weird. And what I (and my other friends in the group) find weirder is that they actually admitted to us they had copied us! They could have played innocent as it's not a really unusual name. Odd! It's a pain though now though as if her boy is being told off my poor mite thinks he's in trouble and looks bemused!

Quint - it was a very bohemian delivery ward, don't y'know....

When i was pg with ds2 (didn't know it was a ds) I told everyone i knew that if the baby was a girl i would call her Megan.

MIL gets herself a mangy old dog and calls it?? Yep bloody Megan!! Told her i was bit annoyed and very upset as i was planning to call our baby Megan if it was a girl. She graciously said if i wanted to to she wouldn't mind if we copied her. WTF???

Thank god we had ds2 eh? Now have 2 dd's and didn't call them Megan, went right off the name for some reason lol

My stepsister and I were both expecting babies close together (hers is 7 weeks older) and were considering the same girl's name. But I learned I was expecting a boy and Hannah had a son too (fortunately she didn't use the name I planned once I learned)

MorocconOil · 10/06/2007 22:56

It is a very popular name, but very lovely all the same.

eidsvold · 10/06/2007 23:03

yes you are being unreasonable but at least you realise it.

Go ahead and use the name anyway. We had chosen a name for dd2 - never told anyone - but an acquaintance went on to have a little girl and named her exactly the name - first and middle - we had chosen. We kept the first name as it was what we really liked and just changed her middle name.

My ex and I had been talking babies and names. He left me after having an affair with my married best friend. They ended up together and had a baby - named their dd the name ex and I had chosen for our dd! Felt very strange but no problem - the name is sooo popular now and I can't imagine anyone of my 3 dds called that now.

Well, I have a name chosen for the uterine occupant, and although there will inevitably be a fair few of that particular name about, there's not likely to be many with the same spelling

You stick to your choice m'dear, and revel in your hormones

Agnes
