So i know i am being precious but am still a little irked by the fact that one of the ladies from my ante-natal class has gone and taken our baby name! I know there are hundreds of people out there with the same name, but we've known for months that we are having a boy and what we are going to call him. This lady (albeit a lovely lady at that) went and had her baby early (grrr and only a 3 hours labour - how unfair is that - lucky girl ) and has proceeded to name her baby boy (which she didn't know she was having) our baby name. Not only that - but the same initials for the middle name too!

Now, i know iam being unreasonable but still - i fancied a moan and letting it all out.

Big fat raspeberries to early easy births and taking baby names. pfffffffffffffffffffffffft!

I feel a little better

Is it William?

Stigaloid · 08/06/2007 10:15

No. But another equally common name (as in lots of people called it) - but to have the same initals ....... gah! Even middle names aren't sacred anymore!

you are being very precious.

but you know that.

are you really going to see this person after ante-natal classes? will thwey attend the same schoool? same group of friends?

misdee · 08/06/2007 10:17

thomas

mustrunmore · 08/06/2007 10:17

Just stick to your guns anyway. You may not see her very much anymore anyway!

When we chose the boys names, we were happy knowing that no one on earth would want to swipe their names

HonoriaGlossop · 08/06/2007 10:17

oh, g'wan tell us what it is

Will you still use it regardless? Seems crazy not to...

Enid · 08/06/2007 10:19

tbh...I doubt she gave it a second thought

remember you are pg and must never be taken seriously

TootyFrooty · 08/06/2007 10:20

Stick with your choice. You'll probably lose touch with her within a year and you'll be gutted that you didn't use the name you wanted. If it's any consolation my db and his wife will prob call their dc the same as my ds1 if they have a boy. Doesn't bother me at all - it's a family name that's been in our family for 5 generations.

Chelseamum · 08/06/2007 10:20

it happened to me and my baby name is very very very unusal... not happy at all!

I feel for you!

Bah!

Stigaloid · 08/06/2007 10:20

Congrats to Misdee - it is Thomas and the middle name is after my late father. We've known for months and been very open about what we are calling him - and yes, will probably still use the same name. I don't mind too much really - it is extremely popular as a name, just think it very ballsy of another lady from our group swiping it before i give birth (and VERY jealous of her easy delivery)

Am actually very excited for her and really glad all is well. If i really wanted a name that no one else would take i would probably have gone for Algernon or something.

Still - i am 36+ weeks pregnant, hormonal and precious - i am allowing myself to wallow in the pity for a good 30 mins and shall then go off and buy her a card!

Oooh i like JOshua but DH doesn't for some reason. Our other favourite name choice is Dylan - which we may go for - guess it depends on what he looks like. The middle name will definitely be after my dad though

oooh a little changeling

how lovely

snowleopard · 08/06/2007 10:32

Outrageous behaviour IMO, and especially with an easy labour! I would have been just as annoyed. Definitely call him what you want to - I hung out with people from my antenatal class for, oh, 3 months and then most of us gradually stopped seeing each other.

In fact I think you should call him "The One and Only Thomas"

Every born in my area in the last year is called Thomas. Or Jack. Think there must be a law that only these 2 names allowed. Pity the poor teachers in a few years!

Furrymummy · 08/06/2007 10:52

I'm calling mine Chutney. No one in their right mind would ever want to steal that name

Enid · 08/06/2007 10:56

yes I can highly recommend a house full of girls

pussycatmomma · 08/06/2007 11:04

had to smile to myself at Dylan. Was pondering it the other day with my dh,and he just said "we are not naming our child after your best friends rabbit!"
it hadnt occured to me before that dylan is also an aging floppy eared brown bunny

My nephew wanted me to call my baby after his rabbit.

What's the rabbit's name? I asked

Answer: 'Stu'

WinkyWinkola · 08/06/2007 11:29

YANBU at all! I too would be really cheesed off.

In fact, I'm not even pregnant but have my next baby's name decided already.

I would be really moaning if someone else I knew used it before I had a chance to. Now THAT is being unreasonable but I don't care. Luckily I choose quite poncey names so the chances of them being used are minimal.
