To think that Quorn doesn’t agree with me

DD asked if we could eat more vegetarian meals. This was fine with me and I’ve happily been buying and testing lots of new stuff. I’ve been fine with everything except Quorn mince. Both times I’ve used it to make a bolognese I’ve felt incredibly sick afterwards. Nobody else is ill so I don’t think it’s my cooking!
Does Quorn affect anyone else like this? I feel so ill, I want to cry Sad

Yes me. Terrible cramps. Read the packet - it actually comes with a warning Shock

Bechetdiagnosed · 04/09/2018 20:50

Yes. It makes my DB throw up and my DH has an upset stomach. It’s derived from mushrooms I think?

MeganChips · 04/09/2018 20:51

It does DH, it makes him violently ill every time. Apparently it’s not uncommon.

It has no effect on me but I’m too scared to eat it now! TVP is fine, perhaps give that a try?

Not mushrooms per se. But certainly fungus.

Ellieboolou27 · 04/09/2018 20:52

Me! I can’t stand it as it makes me feel so sick after, I get really bad acid from it and feel nauseous. Same with quorn burgers, sausages etc.

I made a cottage pie with green lentils and it’s so much nicer than quorn.

Mach5 · 04/09/2018 20:52

Try brown lentils in the bolognese. Sounds like an allergic reaction to the Quorn.

EleanorLavish · 04/09/2018 20:52

I eat quite a bit of Quorn. But whenever I use the mince for bolognaise or chilli, I’m in the loo later and it all comes flying out!Blush
I’m fine with the other products.
I actually tried and much prefer Linda McCartney sausages now anyway, and her burgers.

scoobyd2 · 04/09/2018 20:53

Is it all Quorn products or only the mince?

BretonStripe · 04/09/2018 20:53

Makes me fart like a bison.

Fatted · 04/09/2018 20:53

Yup. I get terribly bad stomach cramps from eating mushrooms and have similar if I've eaten Quorn.

littlepeas · 04/09/2018 20:53

I also do not like quorn! As a pp says, green lentils are much better and work well in bolagnese, chilli and shepherd pie.

SouthWestmom · 04/09/2018 20:53

Not mushrooms. I had awful vomiting until I realised. Gave it up years ago. The kids eat it with no problems

gamerchick · 04/09/2018 20:54

Bad bellys and squits here. Awful stuff.

Pollaidh · 04/09/2018 20:54

Quorn gives me an upset stomach. Use lentils instead. Cauldron Sausages use TVP I think, and they don't affect me.

Verbena87 · 04/09/2018 20:54

Several family members react to it that way, yep. I agree green/brown/puy lentils are often a tastier mince substitute anyway.

Tryingtogetitright · 04/09/2018 20:55

Have only eaten it a couple of times as mince. Both times terrible cramps and diarrhoea. Interesting to see it's not just me!

nicslackey · 04/09/2018 20:55

Yeah. Me too. My son is fine but I double up with cramps. Apparently about a third of people are affected in some way. It's a shame as although I am not vegetarian I really don't mind eating if we have vegetarian guests and I always check with them first now. Not your cooking!!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 04/09/2018 20:55

If you look on runners sites you will see that it's common for the mince to give you the, err 'runs'. No idea why it's the mince though.

LuluBellaBlue · 04/09/2018 20:55

I’m violently ill too, it even put me in hospital once! Evil stuff Envy

TubbsAndEdward · 04/09/2018 20:55

I'm fine with quorn but soya mince makes me feel very ill.
My step mum can't eat quorn without feeling very unwell.

Ilovehamabeads · 04/09/2018 20:57

Well I fished the packet out of the bin - there is indeed a warning on the back. I hadn’t seen that bit. Ok so it seems Quorn mince is off the menu then, for me at least.
Thanks!

My mum is severely allergic to it. She ended up in hospital a few years ago after a meal she ordered had quorn in and she didn’t realise because it didn’t say on the menu.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 04/09/2018 20:57

How is the warning worded?

Stormzyandme · 04/09/2018 21:00

Luckily Im fine with it but I have read others react to it.
