To think that Quorn doesn’t agree with me

DD asked if we could eat more vegetarian meals. This was fine with me and I’ve happily been buying and testing lots of new stuff. I’ve been fine with everything except Quorn mince. Both times I’ve used it to make a bolognese I’ve felt incredibly sick afterwards. Nobody else is ill so I don’t think it’s my cooking!
Does Quorn affect anyone else like this? I feel so ill, I want to cry Sad

I often get hiccups bizarrely after eating quorn.

Polestar50 · 04/09/2018 22:06

I don’t feel sick but get the worst farts after eating Quorn. A shame really as I’m veggie and quite like the taste and texture. I still eat it occasionally (being mindful of the consequences eg making sure I don’t have plans to work in close quarters with others the next day Blush)

The chicken strips especially are brilliant marinated and used in stir fry/fajitas etc.

Bunnybigears · 04/09/2018 22:06

I cant eat quorn without spending the next few hours doubled over with cramps.

Dbrook · 04/09/2018 22:10

Doesn’t agree with me either, I got really bad cramps after I ate it. Never again.

Mrsramsayscat · 04/09/2018 22:11

I can't eat it, but I don't. I'm concerned the company which makes it are so secrets about what it is.

londonrach · 04/09/2018 22:12

Its a fungus to avoid even if you ok now as you can suddenly become allergic. Dh reacted when he tried it. I refuse to eat it as watched a doc on it once. Will never eat it as a result.

mrsjackrussell · 04/09/2018 22:13

Quorn adverts says it's healthy etc but there's lots of additives in it too

MyHairNeedsASnip · 04/09/2018 22:17

Yes! It took me ages to work out what it was too. After that I developed the same reaction to chicken and egg white. So bloody inconvenient

LEMtheoriginal · 04/09/2018 22:20

There's a warnimg? I had a ride in an ambulance with full sirens and flashing lights with an allergic reaction to quorn. Never again!

MorningsEleven · 04/09/2018 22:20

Makes me fart like a bison

What's the difference between a buffalo and a bison?

You can't wash your hands in a buffalo.

WaitingForSunday17 · 04/09/2018 22:24

I ate it for years and then started to get hives every time I ate it. Didn’t twig as I’d eaten it for about a decade at this point. However I hadn’t eaten it for a few weeks and then had a bolognaise made from the mince. Full on horrendous allergic reaction, heart racing, head to foot covered in hives, mouth swollen, eyes closed up, horrendous vomiting, breathless. It required a trip to hospital and steroids. It was probably made worse by the fact I was pregnant as well but oh my god it was dreadful. Haven’t eaten it since obviously.

QueenDoris · 04/09/2018 22:25

Isn't quorn grown from cow bogeys?

Lisabel · 04/09/2018 22:27

Yep, some people have an intolerance of the fungus used for it. There are other meat alternatives you could use.

BretonStripe · 04/09/2018 23:17

@MorningsEleven Grin very good!

daughterofanarchy · 04/09/2018 23:27

Violent stomach cramps after eating quorn. Felt like labour pain (I’m not exaggerating the pain was hideous).

wikedminx · 04/09/2018 23:33

I have eaten it a few times when my daughter (who is a recovering veggie) would eat it!!
It gave me the most awful stomach cramps and diarrhoea!
My daughter also had terrible cluster headaches! And since she stopped eating it they have ceased!
Evil Stuff!!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/09/2018 23:34

Its basically mould grown in a lab.
Bleeeuuurgh.
I get the shits after eating it too, horrid stuff.
