Personal and bedtime hygiene

An interesting (and surprising for me) fact transpired from an innocent and unrelated discussion about cats: some people change their bed linen weekly. How often do you change yours?

Is it related to how often you / your partner have a shower? How often do you wash?

I have 2 showers a day, husband - 1, and I don't change bedlinen more often than every 2-3 weeks.

[I don't know if it's strictly speaking AIBU, rather than "are we being dirty-cunted?" Please, dears, let's be respectful towards each other in this sensitive subject ;)]

You’ll get loads of different responses. We both shower every day (at least once), and we change the sheets every week. I would hate 3 week old sheets - but everyone is different!

eyycarumba · 29/08/2018 15:30

Every week, including a mattress hoover and steam. I live alone but bathe/daily, DP stays a couple of nights and usually showers daily.

I have a friend who changes and washes her bed sheets every single day

InDubiousBattle · 29/08/2018 15:30

I have a shower every morning and wash my face before bed (wash my hands about a million times a day). I sometimes have a bath if I'm going out for the evening out.

We all get fresh bedding once a week.

sunstarsmoon · 29/08/2018 15:30

Shower everyday and change bedding every week. Can't beat fresh bedding.

SoyDora · 29/08/2018 15:31

This again! If you do a search you’ll see this comes up at least once a week.

Twotailed · 29/08/2018 15:32

DH and I both shower once a day and we usually change the sheets weekly. Sometimes we’ll go two weeks if we’re very busy but rarely more than that. It’s an individual thing though imo!

SoyDora · 29/08/2018 15:32

In answer to your question... shower daily and wash bedding weekly.

Whatsthisbear · 29/08/2018 15:33

Shower every day, bedding every week for the whole house.

FromNowOn · 29/08/2018 15:33

Shower every day and wash bedding probably every 2 weeks.

foxtiger · 29/08/2018 15:37

I have either a shower or a bath once a day (occasionally miss a day while camping or travelling, and occasionally have an extra one when very dirty or cold) and I aim to change the sheets once every 2 weeks, but don't actually make a note of the date. I suspect left to my own devices I would tend to go over the 2 weeks if anything, and DH definitely sometimes changes them when it's been less than 2 weeks. I think he thinks that if they are wrinkly they need washing instead of just re-tucking in.

steppemum · 29/08/2018 15:39

well, all the clean people have posted first!
This comes up a lot on mn.
People who shower every day cannot believe that anyone can shower every second day and not stink. But my dh only does every second day, he sweats very little and never smells. I need to shower daily, because I am a sweaty betty.

Many people change sheets every 2-3 week.s Then you come across people who don't like clean sheets, and change as little as possible!

I am in the 2-3 weeks camp. I would like to do them weekly, but it just doesn't happen

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 29/08/2018 15:40

I shower every morning and change the bedsheets weekly.

DS1 is 12 and has hit full-throttle-smelly-boy-time and his sheets are done twice a week because his room smells like despair. He also showers daily, but would happily shower once a week.

Shoxfordian · 29/08/2018 15:44

We both shower every day unless exceptionally hungover! Beds are changed weekly.

Maybugger · 29/08/2018 15:47

I have a bath every night (I cannot go to bed without bathing or showering), bedding changed at least once a week. Do people really go to bed without washing?
That's grim imo.

elQuintoConyo · 29/08/2018 15:47

I shower every morning, as does the man i sleep with; the 6yo bathes in the evening.

Alternative Mondays either towels or bedding is laundered.

Neither us nor our linens are crusty, nor do we have lashings of cash to spunk on water+electricity to do so much washing. Drying is done on a couple of horses in the garden.

Jaffacakesfordinner · 29/08/2018 15:47

Both shower at least once daily.. sheets changed every 2 weeks or so.. probably a little more in summer. We dont change them as part of a routine, but when they need changing. Showering is part of daily routine tho.

FatArnie · 29/08/2018 15:48

Well I am a dirty mare. I only do mine around every couple of months. usually longer I do shower every day before bed tho and clean nightie. I have bad health and cannot manage it more often, not just the changing but all the extra washing and drying and folding.

lottiegarbanzo · 29/08/2018 15:49

Um, isn't is also related to how often you have sex?

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 29/08/2018 15:50

I shower/bath 5 times a week and change my bedsheets every 2 days.

I like clean sheets. I sleep better.

MissConductUS · 29/08/2018 15:51

We both shower daily and do the sheets weekly, or at times, every other week.

SoyDora · 29/08/2018 15:52

Um, isn't is also related to how often you have sex?

Not really. We have sex 3-4 times a week. We don’t change our sheets that often.

dinosaurkisses · 29/08/2018 15:53

I love these threads! The defensiveness gets very entertaining!

Sheets used to be every week, but I've started trying to eek it out more as I'm pregnant and the smell of laundry detergent on the pillowcase etc is making me feel ill. I've banished DH to the spare room (pregnancy space related) and I wear pyjamas so haven't really noticed the difference so far.

Shower is every evening before bed when I'm working- I'm still on maternity at the moment so it's more like every other day or two, just whenever I feel the need.

lottiegarbanzo · 29/08/2018 15:53

Not saying you'd change them every time but, that it might prompt people to change them more often, like weekly?

FatArnie · 29/08/2018 15:55

just use a sex towelGrin

theunsure · 29/08/2018 15:56

Daily shower here for both of us.

Change bed linen every week to 10 days. Aim for weekly but don't stress if we miss a few days.

My cats sleep on the bed though so they do look grubby especially if they have muddy paws!
