Personal and bedtime hygiene

An interesting (and surprising for me) fact transpired from an innocent and unrelated discussion about cats: some people change their bed linen weekly. How often do you change yours?

Is it related to how often you / your partner have a shower? How often do you wash?

I have 2 showers a day, husband - 1, and I don't change bedlinen more often than every 2-3 weeks.

[I don't know if it's strictly speaking AIBU, rather than "are we being dirty-cunted?" Please, dears, let's be respectful towards each other in this sensitive subject ;)]

Fortnightly bed change but we both wear PJs and livecwuiye far north where it’s not hot. Would change the bed more often if we didn’t wear pjs or were in the sweaty south in summer.

PinguDance · 29/08/2018 20:38

I change my pillow case after about 4 days but sheets about every two weeks. My cat creeps onto my pillow and I put my face on it that I lovingly attend to whereas I’m not that bothered about my legs being enveloped in two weeks worth of skin cells.

Do people really shower or bath twice a day every day? Don't you have water meters?!

Shower/bath when I get up every day, twice weekly evening bath to wash my hair in addition. Clean pyjamas every night and change the bed sheets every 10-14 days.

I think we are slap bang in the middle of the dirty or clean divide.

wildewillow · 29/08/2018 21:15

I change our bedding every Sunday. I have a bath most nights before bed or showers in the day if I've got more time. I have a strict face cleansing ritual every night before bed. DH had a shower most nights or every night if been to the gym (4-5 times a week average). He sweats a lot in bed so couldn't leave the bedding any longer as it starts to smell odd.

At uni I had a boyfriend who washed his sheets once in the first year. They went a funny green colour and smelt like sour milk, thank his I didn't marry him!

I always remember kay Adams on loose women years ago,was when the panel was discussing this. Her reply was every half term!

DailyFailstinks · 29/08/2018 21:23

I live alone, shower once a day and quick wash before bed. Bedding is changed every week, but the cat does sometime sleep on the bed.

Thankfully I never had such an abomination. I think they are being forced on people in some areas. And also some in the past asked for them, realised there is no savings but couldn't get rid of it. They were pestering me when I lived in London to book an appointment for fitting it in which I ignored, and then moved out altogether.

@BloodyDisgrace you lucky thing! We didn't have one in London but moved to a house in Kent that has one. Costing us a fortune.

JillCrewesmum · 30/08/2018 07:49

A shower a day, occasionally I miss a day. Dh every day. Sheets probably every fortnight or so depending on what we've been doing in the bed! I don't mind being a bit stinky tbh. (a bit, not full on bo)

MasonJar · 30/08/2018 08:20

I'm always surprised that people remember how often they change their sheets.
Mine get changed whenever they need washing.

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/08/2018 08:26

I’ve not showered or changed my bedding since 2005 as that’s the last time I had sex. No point really.

BloodyDisgrace · 30/08/2018 09:26

Thank you, everyone, for your insights and taking time to comment on such recurring subject. I'm personally not convinced about weekly change to adopt this regime myself, but I am going to have a glass of Zoflora for breakfast and call the press conference for the cats about their pissy paws in the kitchen tops. Improvement is on the way!

I shower most days, have the odd day where I dont and my husband is the same.
Change bedding once every couple of weeks... sometimes leave it 3 weeks. Basically its when I remember lol!!

OutPinked · 30/08/2018 09:31

Always done it weekly, yes. And yes, we shower daily Grin. I just hate the feel of two week old bed linen.

BloodyDisgrace · 30/08/2018 10:01

AlexaAmbidextra - well, you must have an excellent immune system after all that exposure! ;) You'll be the last one left if there's an outbreak of lethal virus/zombie invasion/ nuclear fallout. Stay strong, Comrade!

toothtruth - heh, when I worked FT I didn't have time for MN (I am just not a multi-tasker :)) and never even gave any thought to this subject. Don't even remember how often I changed them. It is now that I'm a housewife that I decided to start throwing some weight around the house (or pigsty I shall call it, given everyone else's vigorous efforts around theirs)

I aim for clean sheets once a week. Usually end up changing them about once a month Shock and I shower daily unless I'm not going anywhere then sometimes I don't unless I feel dirty like in the summer.

Must change the sheets today Blush

ASauvignonADay · 30/08/2018 10:17

Shower/bath every day, and change sheets weekly (sometimes fortnightly if really busy or away a the weekend).

maZebraltov · 30/08/2018 10:18

Bedding changed twice a year & I sometimes like to shower
hate these threads who gives a Fig, honestly

Zoflorabore · 30/08/2018 10:23

Shower every day and bedding changed once a week minimum.
To be totally honest I don't get the big deal over the "freshly washed bedding" obsession. It never feels much different to me, apart from being freshly ironed.

I do have diagnosed OCD and though I'm not bothered by germs in general i do struggle with the aesthetic look of things so strip the bed more so because it looks creased.

And that my friends is the torture of OCD...

Raven88 · 30/08/2018 11:10

I shower every day and a quick wash at night if it's been a sweaty day. DH showers 3 times a week usually have to remind him, he isn't a sweaty person.

Beds get changed when I remember usually every few weeks.
