Personal and bedtime hygiene

An interesting (and surprising for me) fact transpired from an innocent and unrelated discussion about cats: some people change their bed linen weekly. How often do you change yours?

Is it related to how often you / your partner have a shower? How often do you wash?

I have 2 showers a day, husband - 1, and I don't change bedlinen more often than every 2-3 weeks.

[I don't know if it's strictly speaking AIBU, rather than "are we being dirty-cunted?" Please, dears, let's be respectful towards each other in this sensitive subject ;)]

QueenoftheNights - fair point about asthma or eczema.

I don't understand people who don't shower or bathe before bed. All the day's dirt, sweat and grime is on you and your partner
I don't either, but equally wonder why folks go to work without having a shower. And I know what it looks like, seen it on a bus.

in reality we all go to bed covered in the days grime but it sounds better to say we shower and wash our sheets!

On a real note, I remember being a teen and my bed then was very untouched for a long time, It was hard for my mum to even find my bed under all my clothes and make up...

dinosaurkisses · 29/08/2018 16:29

“ And who actually ploughs through all the individual posts on them anyway?”

I do- I love spotting the —nutters— clean people who come on to say they bleach their sheets every night before putting them on a boil wash, and insist that DH has a biohazard shower twice a day

adaline · 29/08/2018 16:30

We shower daily, and the sheets are changed weekly, more in summer if it's really hot and sticky.

Tara336 · 29/08/2018 16:31

We change our bedding weekly, however, we spend a couple nights at our other place every week so beds not slept in every night but still gets changed. We both shower minimum once a day. When it was very hot bed was changed twice a week

StylishMummy · 29/08/2018 16:31

Bedding once a week, shower or thorough wash daily

StaySafe · 29/08/2018 16:37

I change our bedding every 2 weeks, sometimes a few days more. We like our bed to feel lived in and don't like the fresh linen thing. Showering - sometimes 4 x a day. on Saturday once before bootcamp, once when I get home, once after riding lesson and then last thing at night. I tend to go to exercise classes before and after work on some days, so 3 x on those days. I'm so clean with all that showering the bed linen lasts longer.

Please, dears

Hmm

Yes, I’m sure you’re new and haven’t seen any of the monthly bun fights this causes...definitely not...

BarbedBloom · 29/08/2018 16:49

We both shower daily in the morning and change sheets weekly. I don’t shower before bed but I do wash my face as part of my skincare regime so it is clean when I put it on my pillow Grin

Bluetrews25 · 29/08/2018 16:53

I would love to see the PPs sheets drying on horses outside. Do they not get mucky when the horses roll around in the grass, or muddy when they fly off when the horses go gallopy-gallopy? Grin
Personally, I shower every 30 mins, even when at work. And change the bedlinen every 60mins. You can't be too clean. Hmm

notangelinajolie · 29/08/2018 16:54

I change the bedding every Friday.
Bath every day.

I've seen a few .. ahem lively discussions here but didn't scroll properly to read all the insults. So far I think it's an enlightening, useful place :)

The sheets are done once a week here, I shower every day unless I am not leaving the house then I don't bother. I always wash my face before bed.

Jenjenyeahyeah · 29/08/2018 17:30

Shower every day - me before bed DH usually in the morning as he gets home late and would disturb the sleeping household if showering at midnight.
Sheets get changed every Saturday without fail. Dog sleeps in our bed with us, as do some of our 4 cats if they fancy.

GreenMeerkat · 29/08/2018 17:31

Husband showers every day. I have a bath every other day and a wash every day (unless I've been to the gym or done anything strenuous).

Sheets washed on 90 every fortnight.

emelsie · 29/08/2018 17:51

I just feel bad that I don't have set routines for these things like everyone else, been through phases of putting clean bedding on every couple of days, that's probably the shortest phase , sometimes can go months and months changing the beds weekly , sometimes every 2 or 3 weeks.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 29/08/2018 18:18

Shower once/twice daily depending on what we've been doing/if we've been at work etc, bedding gets done every week. We both sleep with nowt on and my DH also leaves awful yellow patches on the bedding. If it's not washed quickly, I struggle to get the stains out. I always thought it was from him working with metal, that's why it appeared to be rust-like marks!

Bluelady · 29/08/2018 18:26

Bath/shower every day, clean sheets every week.

lynmilne65 · 29/08/2018 19:44

If it's sex related I must change bed every 15 years ☹️

LyndorCake · 29/08/2018 19:50

I aimed to change my sheets every week, even set a recurring timer on my phone! But I'm often just too busy and by the time bedtime rolls around I really can't be bothered. Realistically I change them every 2-3 weeks. I have gone longer but let's not talk about that.
I shower once a day, as does DH. He never sweats though and always smells yummy so he only does this to wake himself up.
I'm sad because we can't flip our new mattress as it's memory foam on top and spring on the bottom.

HildaZelda · 29/08/2018 20:00

We both shower at least once a day and change the sheets weekly, usually at the weekend.

Aaaahfuck · 29/08/2018 20:11

Please can we have a new board called

are we being dirty-cunted

So many posts could come under this heading

SharpLily · 29/08/2018 20:24

I always thought I was pretty dirty cunted (love it), but I'm definitely not according to this thread! We live in a hot country so at the moment, being a very sweaty summer, we both shower twice per day and I change the bedsheets every few days - my husband is a sweaty bloke and the dogs like to get on the bed for a cuddle in the morning.

In winter we shower at least once and often twice per day and the bed gets changed once a week. I do get a bit twitchy if for some reason I have to leave it any longer.

Jenjenyeahyeah · 29/08/2018 20:31

This made me remember an episode of OCD cleaners where the guy washed and ironed his sheets every day or every week (can’t remember) yet slept on the floor in an old sleeping bag so the bed would stay clean

Angie169 · 29/08/2018 20:33

FatArnie
I wondered how long that would take to crop up Grin Grin
