Holiday CF parking thread

I love a good parking thread, and never thought I’d be able to do my own!

We’re on holiday in a Devon seaside location, we have a holiday cottage with parking up on a hill above the harbour. Parking in said seaside town is quite a challenge, and I chose a cottage for me and 2DC (teens) with parking for this reason.

Parking is a supposedly double space (both belong to house) but I’ve parked dead centre across both spaces as I have a mid size 4x4. Spaces are cut into the garden, and house is up some steps. So large walls either side of spaces, no pavement so straight onto the road. Road is narrow (just about passable for two cars). Directly in front of house on other side of the road and then to the right is double yellows. To the left is no doubles, so cars park here (this house is a row of terraces and the only one with parking).

I know the rules and have done a diagram! Red Cross is our house. Black c is my car. Green lines show other houses gardens. Blue car is parked legally. Pink car is right opposite drive on double yellows.

Because of the high sided walls, I need to swing out and avoid the pillars either side - but there’s no room to! No idea who the CF car belongs to, we don’t need to get out right now but will do in a while.

Ps. I have reversed in so car is facing outwards as I thought this would be easier!

AIBU to think this is a proper CF?!

That’s well out of order ! Any chance you can look for any traffic wardens out in the town, and alert them to this horror ?

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 10:28

Good idea, am sending DS16 down to town to hunt one out. It’s a bank hol after all and there will be lots of people around.

Car still there.

Do they have a disabled badge?

Mandalorian · 27/08/2018 10:38

Do they have a disabled badge?

Doesn't really matter if they do. A blue badge does not afford you the right to park inconsiderately and you can still be ticketed for causing and obstruction.

HavelockVetinari · 27/08/2018 10:39

Can you bounce it out of the way with help from your DC? Hope you get a traffic warden, it'll serve the CF right.

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 10:43

No disabled badge. And DS has tried the door handle in case we could roll it a bit, but it’s locked.

When we arrive there was a car parked on the yellows but a car length further up. This was bad enough, but I manage to wiggle in, I really am quite good at parking, but this one is beyond me!

Have you asked at the other houses along the row? You shouldn't have to search them out and ask them to move their illegally parked car, but it seems likely it would be from one of the other houses....

olympicsrock · 27/08/2018 10:45

Call to police if you really need to get out. Perhaps they will tow it?

MarthasGinYard · 27/08/2018 10:45

Find a pc or TW and watch from behind a curtain Grin

Yes they are CF

olympicsrock · 27/08/2018 10:46

Good idea to ask the neighbours

MarthasGinYard · 27/08/2018 10:47

Yes could it be a neighbour only there for ten mins??

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 10:50

It’s been there since I got up at about 9

DS has gone down to town, so I need to get dressed (I am on hols after all!) and will go to neighbours.

We do want to go out today as it rained most of yesterday

OP posts:
BigBlueBubble · 27/08/2018 10:50

No excuse for parking on double yellows. They aren’t just CFs, they are law breakers! Hope they get ticketed.

Starlighter · 27/08/2018 10:53

Call the local police station. They’ll contact the owners if it’s obstructing you. They may even tow it!

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 10:56

I’m sure I saw a police station in town near the main car park, will ring DS and get him to go there too.

DD has taken up position at the front window to watch if anyone comes whilst I shower and dress

Flyingpompom · 27/08/2018 10:56

Wow, very inconsiderate. Hope you find a traffic warden!

birdladyfromhomealone · 27/08/2018 11:01

We had this in Boscastle last month. The owner of our holiday cottage was more than unhelpful , in fact couldnt give an arse.
We were blocked in daily.
On the last day we were packing the car to leave and again blocked in.
I left my hand on the horn and a builder waltzes over smirking saying do you own this cottage?
Unfortunately every one who blocked us in were locals.
We couldnt leave the village by car on 2 out of 7 days. It became an issue that tainted our holiday.
I hope you can get out later.

SoupDragon · 27/08/2018 11:02

Is it not possible to get out with eleventy billion and one back and forth manoeuvres?

They are definitely a CF though.

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 11:13

I love Boscastle -misses point- but that sounds a nightmare Birdlady.

DS has rung to say no TW or PC around, he’s heading back.

No neighbour in to the right, neighbour next door to left was very pleasant (def a permanent resident) but has no idea and didn’t see them arrive. No one in next two houses up either. I think all our permanent residents as the houses look more lived in from what you see as you walk up, rather than more minimal holiday lets.

I may with a huge amount of wiggling be able to get out, the main issue is the brick walls which are right on the road as there’s no pavement so I risk scraping mine whilst trying to avoid both cars.

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 11:13

And if I get out, god knows how I get back in if it hasn’t gone!

OP posts:
Idefix · 27/08/2018 11:13

What a cf! Birdlady I hope you left a suitable review ref your issue Grin

KellyBailey · 27/08/2018 11:14

Seaside town you say? It would be a shame if someone covered their car in food scraps so they return to find it covered in seagull shit, wouldn't it.

BewareOfDragons · 27/08/2018 11:15

That's really crap. The double yellow lines are clearly there so people can get in and out of the drives, but clearly people don't give a fuck about anybody but themselves.

I hope they get a ticket before they move their car.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 27/08/2018 11:15

Yes I think you might have to try the eleventy billion technique if you can't find the owner.

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 11:25

Seagulls.......certainly lots of those here!

DS has returned and likes that idea!

He also said that I’m very good at parking but he thinks even I might struggle to get out. I’m quite proud he thinks I’m good at parking!
