Holiday CF parking thread

I love a good parking thread, and never thought I’d be able to do my own!

We’re on holiday in a Devon seaside location, we have a holiday cottage with parking up on a hill above the harbour. Parking in said seaside town is quite a challenge, and I chose a cottage for me and 2DC (teens) with parking for this reason.

Parking is a supposedly double space (both belong to house) but I’ve parked dead centre across both spaces as I have a mid size 4x4. Spaces are cut into the garden, and house is up some steps. So large walls either side of spaces, no pavement so straight onto the road. Road is narrow (just about passable for two cars). Directly in front of house on other side of the road and then to the right is double yellows. To the left is no doubles, so cars park here (this house is a row of terraces and the only one with parking).

I know the rules and have done a diagram! Red Cross is our house. Black c is my car. Green lines show other houses gardens. Blue car is parked legally. Pink car is right opposite drive on double yellows.

Because of the high sided walls, I need to swing out and avoid the pillars either side - but there’s no room to! No idea who the CF car belongs to, we don’t need to get out right now but will do in a while.

Ps. I have reversed in so car is facing outwards as I thought this would be easier!

AIBU to think this is a proper CF?!

Try calling the (non emergency) police. They may contact the owners or there might be a PC somewhere nearby

ThePussyofMrsSlocombe · 27/08/2018 11:31

Call 101, say someone is blocking you in so you can't leave. 101 will phone the owner of the car and tell them to move. If they can't get ahold of the owner, or if the owner refuses to move then the police might attend if they have absolutely nothing better to do.

MapleLeafRag · 27/08/2018 11:31

Can you post a picture of the badly parked car on “Fixmystreet”

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 11:42

CF has returned

A nurse/carer who ‘often parks here’. I pointed out double yellows (‘we never get traffic wardens up here’) and the fact I couldn’t get out for over well two hours.

She just shrugged and drove off.

Now going out!

Boring end, sorry 😢

I have a holiday let in Devon and parking is indeed a nightmare. What happens frequently in the town is people post on the local Facebook gossip page in this sort of situation and someone invariably tags the person whose car it is and it gets moved.

Could you contact the owners of the cottage and ask them to do something similar?

If it is Ilfracombe, I can do it for you.

PersilOrAriel · 27/08/2018 11:45

Cross post, glad it ended well.

Gersemi · 27/08/2018 11:45

How would 101 have the car owner's phone number? I've never given mine to DVLA.

sprinklesandsauce · 27/08/2018 12:04

Glad it has gone now. People are just ignorant aren't they.

If the owner really doesn't care, then I would leave a review stating that you couldn't leave the property. It would certainly put me off staying there if my vehicle was trapped.

Gersemi · 27/08/2018 12:18

Careful, if she's a nurse/carer, she'll be back.

chocolateworshipper · 27/08/2018 12:20

Check out whether there's a local rugby team, just in case CF comes back

GabsAlot · 27/08/2018 12:24

ignorant cow
there no wardens up here-so thats not the bloody point!

WindyWednesday · 27/08/2018 12:35

I was thinking Dartmouth, that’s a place with parking issues. Doesn’t fit with harbour though.

Definitely mention in on the review of the property if you can and mention it to the letting agent.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 27/08/2018 12:36

If she does it again, get some chips from the chippy, then chuck a few on the car. It'll drive the seagulls insane.

PositivelyPERF · 27/08/2018 12:40

You didn’t happen to notice which agency she worked for, did you? If she turns up again, take a note and contact her employer. They’ll pull her up in it, as they will have a reputation to maintain.

rookiemere · 27/08/2018 12:50

Hope you took a note of the registration. If she does it again definitely try to ensure she gets a parking ticket

Maelstrop · 27/08/2018 12:57

Can you park across the drive, on the pavement so she can’t park opposite? Careful there’s no weird rule about parking on the pavement, I got done for this the other day, no idea, no signs!

lalafafa · 27/08/2018 13:02

I would also mention the parking situation in any reviews you leave.

Jux · 27/08/2018 13:19

Lyme Regis? If it's round that way, then I think I might know which agency runs the carers; they would certainly have a word with her about parking.

diddl · 27/08/2018 13:37

She sounds an entitled ignorant mare!

No traffic wardens so that makes it OKHmm

More likely that she doesn't care about inconveniencing the holidaymakers.

SauvignonBlanche · 27/08/2018 13:53

Hmm, usually hate CF parkers but who knows what she was up to?

rookiemere · 27/08/2018 14:21

Doesn't really matter what she was up to - double yellow lines means no parking for private vehicles no matter what the circumstances.

Freefalling123 · 27/08/2018 14:24

Windy Not far from Dartmouth! Went there yesterday and got soaked in the rain

Successfully returned and parked, no CF again at present, and we’re walking to the beach in a bit. I’ve reversed in again, def no going to risk driving in forwards as that would make it more awkward to get out if there are more CF around.

Maelstrop no pavement - drive is directly onto the road

PERF uniform was definitely a healthcare uniform, but didn’t see a logo or anything

Suspect she thought I was just a holidaymaker so am irrelevant.

Anyway will let you know if she returns or anyone else parks on the yellows.

And will def talk to the lettings company

Glad it resolved. YWereNBU.

crosstalk · 27/08/2018 14:31

I've got the tiniest modicum of sympathy for the CF. Nurse/carer probably on MW, with drive-time/parking done in her own time and unrealistic times between appointments. And possibly 70% of the time the cottage isn't rented. But she is breaking the law and she should have at least apologised.

diddl · 27/08/2018 14:37

"I've got the tiniest modicum of sympathy for the CF. "

Maybe until she was rude!

If there are never any TWs about-why not just put a note on her car saying where she is?
