To think that Nightwatch should have specific "orders"

And that if they are going to delete threads about child rapists, they should be ordered to deleted every news story, on every topic. Or none at all.

Because the alternative makes it look as though there are some Nightwatchers (who I admire as a group, in general) who are going beyond their brief.

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 23:17

Oh dear, who did what?

MissusGeneHunt · 25/08/2018 23:18

The other thread was deleted until MNHQ could take a look at it, which has got to be fair, they do that with loads of stuff. Maybe wait til the daytime and ask them why?

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:20

I apologise unreservedly to NightWatch, they aren't deleting threads.

It seems MNHQ have mods who don't like child rapists being named as such. And they really don't like people pointing out that family members shouldn't cover up for child rapists.

And they really don't like it being put in abut where [siob] people might actually see it Shock

OP posts:
Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:21

Missus, I know why.

This is being hidden all over the internet; links/newspaper reports/twitter threads are being hidden as we speak. And mainstream news channels are pretending it didn't happen.

It's quite extraordinary. I've never seen anything like it.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2018 23:25

It's quite extraordinary. I've never seen anything like it.

Not seeing anything is what happens when there are reporting restrictions for legal reasons, isn't it? Have those been lifted now? If not - wait till they are.

argumentativefeminist · 25/08/2018 23:26

This isn't the only bloody internet site out there. If you dont like the rules, go somewhere else instead of intentionally trying to cause a scene without providing any useful information about the case which you want to be drawing peoples attention to!! If you think you're going to get banned anyway why not provide people with the information you have?

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 23:28

maryz who? I'm a bit out of the loop over news matters this week

Who are we talking about here?

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 23:28

A clue?

PowerPlayed · 25/08/2018 23:29

It's appalling and frightening.

I can't believe how silent the mainstream media are being on this. Combined with the threads disappearing here. We're so fucking hated Angry

Tessliketrees · 25/08/2018 23:30

Gutted this isn't about ASOIAF.

OlennasWimple · 25/08/2018 23:30

Is this about the man sentenced for 22 years who has connections with a political party and a youngish political activist?

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 23:30

I'm lost.... could someone pm me?

PowerPlayed · 25/08/2018 23:30

And yes there are other sites but for those of us who've been here forever it hurts when we have to leave because of this shit

Tessliketrees · 25/08/2018 23:31

If this is about what I think it is I am confused as the media is reporting it. I just Googled to check.

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:31

Errol, where did you see there were reporting restrictions?

I've seen allusion to them on twitter, but no-one seems to know if they actually exist Confused

argumentativefeminist, you are seriously confused aren't you? First part of your name is apt, the second part could be less appropriate Grin

OP posts:
Salmonpinkcords · 25/08/2018 23:31

I have no what this is about! What have I missed?!

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:34

Magnussen, it seems I'm not allowed to say Confused

Most people who are convicted of child torturer and jailed for 22 years would be fair play for discussion on here, but not this one. Because, erm, I dunno [baffled]

OP posts:
argumentativefeminist · 25/08/2018 23:35

If I'm not being particularly feminist, it's because I dont know what the fuck you're talking about! Winds me up to see all these "why won't mumsnet let me talk about this" threads where they are clearly going to get deleted but the OP still provides no information. I'm interested in the case you raise. I probably will end up supporting your arguments. But only if you actually use what to be honest will probably be your last thread before deletion to tell me the information!

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:39

Genuinely it seems that any mention or links to this case are being deleted, not just on MN but all over the internet.

It is all quite bizarre.

Threads mentioning "man tortures ten year old, is convicted and given 22 years in jail" are being deleted because they are, apparently, identifying.

OP posts:
StorminaTCut · 25/08/2018 23:40

Im still.lost Confused

argumentativefeminist · 25/08/2018 23:42

If it is what Olennas is mentioning, then it's literally all over Google and Twitter? That's all that came up for recently when I Googled that sentence length for child abuse. Maybe write to mumsnet HQ and ask them reasonably to explain any posting restrictions?

Jeez, this thread's like one of those annoying Vaguebookers on Facebook.
"OMG, it's so terrible!"

  • friends - "U OK hun?"

  • OP - "Can't say, sorry."

Why bloody mention it then?! Grin

MissusGeneHunt · 25/08/2018 23:44

There's one in the paper online that shall not be named... Picture of perp, full name... So am now even more confused. Case seems to fit your description....

SlartiAardvark · 25/08/2018 23:46

Mumsnet always does this.

It's shit - it's also why I only use it for light relief rather than for any serious discussion.

A: Because it's censored heavily.
B: Because it's censored inconsistently.
