To think that Nightwatch should have specific "orders"

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/08/2018 23:13

And that if they are going to delete threads about child rapists, they should be ordered to deleted every news story, on every topic. Or none at all.

Because the alternative makes it look as though there are some Nightwatchers (who I admire as a group, in general) who are going beyond their brief.

OP posts:

Yes, it’s been reported in the press. To a degree. What isn’t being reported is that the paedophile’s torture den is (and still is) the registered regional HQ of the Green Party. And that the paedophile was employed as an election agent by a current Deputy Leadership candidate after his crimes came to light. And that both of them have been campaigning vigorously to loosen safeguarding in schools and young people’s organisations.

Janleverton · 26/08/2018 00:11

Well the thing is that the news stories I’ve seen haven’t mentioned the man’s connection with the Green Party, the address for local party hq being the crime scene or the man being the election agent for a current spokesperson in the party. The Green Party statement is wholly inadequate imo - refers to gender based crime or some such which I feel is inappropriate for a case involved paedophilia/torture.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 00:15

If they refuse to correctly name what happened as male violence against women and girls then at least "child abuse" would be a better term than the mealy mouthed and deliberately vague "gender based crime".

ErrolTheDragon · 26/08/2018 00:17

I'm out of date or wrong about reporting restrictions as there seem to be lots of reports in mainstream papers plus the Green Party statement which is (currently) here:

kualo.greenparty.org.uk/statements/

'Statement on the sentencing of David Challenor
We have recently been made aware that David Challenor, a family member of Green Party spokesperson Aimee Challenor, has been found guilty of serious sexual offences. We are shocked and horrified by these offences and condemn them in the strongest possible terms. The offences have been dealt with through the criminal justice system and Aimee has requested privacy, which we respect, and we are offering her our support at this challenging time. The Green Party was not aware of any of these allegations until the case concluded and Mr Challenor had been sentenced.
Mr Challenor has not held any elected positions in the Green Party although Aimee appointed him as her election agent for the General Election in 2017 and local election in May 2018.
There is no place for this abhorrent criminal behaviour in the Green Party. Mr Challenor is no longer a member, having had his membership removed with immediate effect. There is no connection between these offences and Mr Challenor’s previous membership of the Green Party.
The Green Party stands against all sexual and gender-based violence. We take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously and as standard practice we will review them with immediate effect.
Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected as a result of these offences'

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 00:21

A. Apparently not or the fact that David Challenor was under investigation would have been noticed a lot sooner.

B. That's great and all, but a bit horse has already left the barn, no?

Putyourdamnshoeson · 26/08/2018 00:21

The radio silence on this is chilling.

As of 2 days ago the BBC had not reported, at all. All newspapers had, none mentioned Green Party connection or that cross dressing appears to be a family trait, but the BBC mentioned NOTHING.

Tinywhale · 26/08/2018 00:22

Is this something to do with the Pope's visit?

RibbityNoo · 26/08/2018 00:24

The "pesky feminists" are making a right pain in the arse of themselves by being unable to discuss it without staying in bounds of potentially libellous speculation that could get mn sued, and the talk guidelines in general.

Some are also posting stuff about children connected with this situation who are or have been in care. Mn is totally right to delete posts that can jigsaw together to ID children. The blinkered agenda of some people seems to have made the blind to the consequences of their own reckless actions.

The claim to have child safeguarding at heart is made a lie of by the repeated disregard for the privacy of children involved.

It's not a crusade, people!

YAB totally and completely U to come here moaning as if mn have shut the whole thing down, which they have not. There have been so many warnings from mnhq about what can't be posted without deletion. When that warning gets ignored enough times they admit defeat and take a whole thread down.

NameChangedAgain18 · 26/08/2018 00:24

I think that what OP means is that her preferred angle on the story is being hidden.

And what would your angle be? Please enlighten us on why it was fine for David Challenor to be employed as an election agent by a current Green Party Deputy Leadership candidate when she knew he was being charged for the rape and torture of a child on the premises that the party uses for its regional HQ?

Putyourdamnshoeson · 26/08/2018 00:25

Bollocks ribbity.

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:25

None of this is about protecting the 10 year old girl that got raped and tortured.

If a close relative of a politician in line for a deputy leader role in e.g. the Labour Party or UKIP was convicted of being a paedophile and sentenced to 22 years then make no mistake it'd be front page news.

Especially if that politician had lived in the home where the attacks took place during the time they did and then continued to live there, with the rapist, after the rapist was arrested and charged.

If the politician also advised govt about child safeguarding issues whilst exhibiting very poor boundaries themselves that would make a news story normally. But it hasn't.

Weird huh?!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/08/2018 00:25

Sunday times now has this in the online/mobile version. Not yet in the app so I can't do a shareable link.

Rising star of Greens will not quit over rapist father

Magnussen · 26/08/2018 00:27

Right I now know!!

First thought was it was about the Chris Ingham saga!

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:27

And by "none of this" I mean the failure by the press to mention a connection between two adults, neither of whom are the 10 year old victim is to protect the victim

RibbityNoo · 26/08/2018 00:28

They also frown upon direct attacks on mods, so yunno, maybe don't do that? Something about not biting the hand that feeds. Or pissing off the business that runs the forum you're posting on. Or their advertisers.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 00:28

Janice

No one has tried to identify the victim.

Tessliketrees · 26/08/2018 00:29

The Green party are shit bags and there is a lot to speak about here but I thinking people are vastly overestimating the amount of interest people have in this man having membership and "other links" to the smallest political party in a 2 party dominated system.

I personally know of a local member of a political party that was sentenced for child sexual abuse and the nationals didn't cover it at all. He was an ex-councillor too. It wasn't a cover up it was lack of interest.

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:29

Wow! Well done Andrew Gilligan!!

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 00:30

Angry

Thank you

David Challenor wore a dress and an adult nappy whilst sexually assaulting and torturing his victim

Janleverton · 26/08/2018 00:33

I find it absolutely shocking actually that the reporting is so limited. I went onto twitter to look at the statement and then read the comments and it’s an eye opener. Extreme lack of judgment/lack of assessment or rese1rch on the green party’s side. Surely they would have been aware of so much background info, on going criminal investigation, previous conviction of the man for animal cruelty? And not bringing any of this to the attention of the party shows spectacular lack of judgement on the part of the daughter - while not suggesting that she was in any way involved or complicit, as an adult living in the house who would no doubt have been interviewed, of course it should have been basic courtesy to tell the party of what might be brewing/allegations? And to not use him as the election agent?

I’m really taken aback to be honest. I tend to be pretty dismissive of claims of media cover ups and bias but in this case it seems that there is a distinct lack of will to make any kind of link between the man in this case and the party’s line on self id etc. Which if it was Tory/labour party and didn’t involve trans, the press would be all over it.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/08/2018 00:33

Bloody hell. Found the story. So, how long before this sick bastard starts calling himself Lucy again, and demanding that "she" be moved to the female estate.

That poor, poor, kid. So brave to have told someone. The fucking scum deserves to rot in hell.

(For anyone still trying to google....if you google Green Party and rape, then follow a link about someone not resigning for their father's actions, then google the name of the father, you'll get there. Hopefully that is circuitous enough for MN?)

dundee12 · 26/08/2018 00:35

The fact he was employed despite the charges is disgusting.

It’s defo odd that the Green party link was not mentioned & I doubt UKIP etc would have been able to keep that quiet.

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:35

Given that it's now reported by the Times id seriously question judgement if MN deleted this.

It's definitely in the public interest that this is out there

Janleverton · 26/08/2018 00:39

Ah. Xpost with times link. Will be interested to see if other papers pick this up (with same level of detail).
