Previous owners have left this statue behind in our garden. I have absolutely no idea what or who it represents. There is a winged angel on his hat (the hat has a lion’s face) and is that Pan in the middle of his chest?

It's a Weeping Angel. Be very, very careful...........

RuggerHug · 05/08/2018 13:30

VeniVediWeeWee......why?!?

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 13:36

I’ve googled images of weeping angel statues and I can’t see any similarity??

It is a bit spooky-is he/she entwined by a snake and a dragons tail?

Dr Who. "The Weeping Angels were an extremely powerful species of quantum-locked humanoids (sufficient observation changes the thing being observed), so called because their unique nature necessitated that they often covered their faces with their hands to prevent trapping each other in petrified form for eternity by looking at one another. This gave the Weeping Angels their distinct "weeping" appearance. They were known for being "kind" murderous psychopaths, eradicating their victims "mercifully" by dropping them into the past and letting them live out their full lives, just in a different time period. This, in turn, allowed them to live off the remaining time energy of the victim's life. However, when this potential energy paled in comparison to an alternative power source to feed on, the Angels were known to kill by other means, such as snapping their victims' necks".

They look like any other statue.

iklboo · 05/08/2018 13:51

From Dr Who episode 'Blink'. Arguably one of the best ever.

No idea on that sculpture though. Could you contact the former owners and ask if they know anything?

VickyEadie · 05/08/2018 13:53

'Blink' was fantastic, but subsequent episodes featuring the weeping angels were a bit crap. IMO.

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 13:55

Oh interesting thought George thank you. So we have an angel sitting astride a lion which is the hat . What looks like Pan in the centre of his chest and Pan shields on his right arm. A dragon’s tail around him.

I have to admit we’ve been here ten years and I have never given any great thought to this statue. I don’t think it even belonged to previous owners (as they took just about everything that wasn’t nailed down) ... apart from this statue. I suspect it was here when they moved in too

ToadOfSadness · 05/08/2018 14:18

It looks a if it belongs in a graveyard.

ToadOfSadness · 05/08/2018 14:18

PanPanPanPing · 05/08/2018 14:22

Blimey! It's amazing. How tall is it? And what's it made of? It looks quite Roman to me, but I'm probably wrong!

LakieLady · 05/08/2018 14:27

Could it be the goddess Minerva? She is often depicted wearing a helmet.

KC225 · 05/08/2018 14:36

Result OP. I had a rancid mattress and and the saddest springless sofa.

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 14:38

Statue is 115cm from top of angel’s head to ground. Unfortunately angel has been broken over years so photo below shows the inside - some kind of plaster/resin??

And I’m not sure this a nice angel at all. Look at its legs!! 😵😵😵

OP posts:
Duskqueen · 05/08/2018 14:39

Sorry no real help, but my first thought was why is there a weeping angel on its head. Grin

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 14:40

KC225 I think I might swap with you. I had never really looked at this statue before today. I’m not at all sure what we have here 😬

OP posts:
RoseWhiteTips · 05/08/2018 14:41

That is really creepy. No wonder it was left behind.

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 14:45

I just feel this is something mass produced so wondering why I cannot find any image of anything vaguely similar

OP posts:
PanPanPanPing · 05/08/2018 14:46

Oh, hang on, are you not in the UK? So 115cm = 45 inches? What country are you in?
