Previous owners have left this statue behind in our garden. I have absolutely no idea what or who it represents. There is a winged angel on his hat (the hat has a lion’s face) and is that Pan in the middle of his chest?

So, who is the sculptor?! We need to know!

50but17inside · 05/08/2018 18:14

Her name was Sharon Keenan. There is information about her work online but sadly she has died.

I emailed the photo to Mary Beard this afternoon and rather wonderfully she replied straight away. After remarking on its weirdness, she said she believes it to be an Athena with a different breastplate from the usual gorgon. So congratulations to pp Lakie who shares the same opinion!!

I was looking at different pic of Athena and on one she had a winged mermaid with 2 tails coming down each side, but if was in a different position.

Love the fact Mary Beard email straight back. I love Mary Beard

I've found a bit of reference to a piece she did dated 1906....but then there are other references to a Sharon Keenan who seems to be alive and been commissioned by a lot of well-known public bodies.

Here it mentions her previous commissions

painter-stainers.nc-dev.co.uk/arts-crafts/painters-fine-art-society/sharon-keenan/

Among her public commissions are those for The City of London, The Territorial Army ---- and for the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, for which she sculpted the statue of Admiral Rooke on Gibraltar’s Devil’s Tongue Battery.

The Honourable Company of Master Mariners, Loctite International, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Madam Tussauds, Royal Doulton, The Chartered Institute of Marketing and The East India Club have all commissioned her work.

And also that she is presently a trustee of the Thomas Heatherley Educational Trust

Oh thank you so much Ajas. I have found the website for the Combe Down Art Trail in Bath in which she exhibited some work in 2017 but sadly now shows her photo with the caption In Memoriam so I imagine she has died very recently.
