Knocked on door quite loudly and ringed the bell. I was upstairs by the time i was at the top of the stairs he litterally opened the front door and left my package there . I know i should have locked but is it really normal to try and open the door ? I was really shocked by this.
He litterally didnt even wait 3 seconds

This happened to me yesterday only I was in next doors houese. Came home and there was a parcel left inside my house. What if my indoor cat had ran out and got run over. Or what if I'd had a angry dog.

Must be a new thing?

PsychoPumpkin · 30/07/2018 14:26

Some of the couriers round here do it. I think it’s really weird. They barely knock (I can’t hear it if I’m putting one of my toddlers down for a nap) and when I get downstairs, i’ll Have a package on my hallway carpet.

I’ve started to just lock the door. I have several safe places a parcel can be left if they just open the side gate and have a look

safariboot · 30/07/2018 14:26

At least he actually delivered it. A lot of the time delivery drivers will lie, or just throw the parcel over a fence or dump it in the bin, because their managers expect them to meet unattainable targets/

Consider locking your door, even if you live somewhere there "isn't any crime", because one day there might be.

I dont know if i am being very dramatic but i felt a bit violated . I left a comment on amazon not that they will do anything about it

I have a "safe place"
Indicated on my amazon account usually they leave it there is the first time this happened !
I will be definately locking the doors !

Our postman does this, we are very rural though and the delivery office is a half hour trip, i am eternally grateful to him!
He also sometimes delivers parcels to me at work if i’m not in (just down the road, still on his route)

GoofyIsACow · 30/07/2018 14:29

I do think YAB a tiny bit U

NaomiNagata · 30/07/2018 14:32

My postman and most of the delivery drivers do this all the time. I usually don't lock my door when I go out if I'm expecting a delivery and they just pop it on the front door. But I also live rurally. I do have an inside door which locks, but it really wouldn't hold up to a good old shove if someone actually wanted to break in.

firsttimemum889 · 30/07/2018 14:34

So it is normal then ?

SluttyButty · 30/07/2018 14:39

In our old house we had a porch and some used to do that, drove me mad, I'm home just wait more than three seconds!
This house, no porch and our dog lunges at the front door with ferocious barking, all delivery drivers look in terror 😂 We do have a wall mounted post box for the postman before anyone says anything to protect postie and leaflet droppers fingers.

RideOn · 30/07/2018 14:49

I'd find that quite helpful

Lock your door surely?

Ebeneser · 30/07/2018 14:53

When I was growing up we’d just get parcels etc chucked through the porch door (inside door would be locked). Very useful. I miss having a porch!
Never had anyone opening my front door and putting a parcel through though, I expcet the dog would try and eat them if they did. one of the posties quite often leaves parcels in my (empty) brown food bin though. That is handy as well.

Oysterbabe · 30/07/2018 14:55

I've had Hermes delivery drivers do this a few times.

Bombardier25966 · 30/07/2018 14:55

He opened your front door. He didn't touch your foo. You are being very dramatic.

toobloodymuch · 30/07/2018 14:58

I'd much rather they did this than take the package away....I've had them posted through an open window before when I've been out. I always appreciate the ingenuity

delphguelph · 30/07/2018 14:58

Must be a new thing?
^

An unacceptable new thing - surely it's breaking and entering??

delphguelph · 30/07/2018 14:58

Stealthy stealth, oyster eh

Kintan · 30/07/2018 15:01

If you leave your door unlocked maybe they think you don't mind people opening it? I'd be happy for a delivery driver to do that, but on the other hand I don't leave my door unlocked..

PrivateDoor · 30/07/2018 15:03

But they are neither breaking nor entering - they throw the parcel in from the door step through an unlocked door.

Personally I prefer it to having to traipse to a sorting office if I miss the knock. Our postman used to do it, he would shout postman out loud while dropping the parcel into my hall.

Cliveybaby · 30/07/2018 15:03

I can't believe you don't have your door locked! Anyone could just walk in, and they have!

neveradullmoment99 · 30/07/2018 15:06

Its easy. Lock your door.

crunchymint · 30/07/2018 15:08

They do it because they are paid for such little time to deliver that they don't really have time for people to come to the door.

Mousefunky · 30/07/2018 15:10

Hope it’s a lesson to you to keep your door locked in future. If he got in, what’s stopping a burglar? And yes, they can and do break in when people are home during the day... always, always lock or in the very least latch your doors.
