To think tea is not a refreshing drink?!

Why on earth do people keep asking if I want a cup of tea?! Confused

It’s 34 degrees!

My Nana always used to say that ‘hot drinks cool you down’...do they fuck!

I can honestly say I’ve never been refreshed by a cup of tea. To me, a drink has to be cold to be refreshing. Don’t get me wrong, I love tea but it’s a comforting drink rather than a refreshing one, surely?

My Nan also always said the same thing and I believe there is science behind it but I agree with you, they definitely don’t cool me down! Also dehydrate you so seems to defeat the object of having a drink...

AveABanana · 27/07/2018 18:06

You clearly haven't had a decent cup of tea Grin

humblesims · 27/07/2018 18:08

YABU A cup of tea is refreshing. End of.

Itsveryhard · 27/07/2018 18:09

YABU cups of tea are very refreshing!! I've had 4 today...

I only drink water or tea (or wine or gin!!)

kaytee87 · 27/07/2018 18:09

I agree, ice cold water, lemonade or beer Grin

FearOfFrogs · 27/07/2018 18:10

Grew up in Australia- nothing beats a cuppa on a hot day. YABU Grin

InDubiousBattle · 27/07/2018 18:11

YANBU. There's an ice cold bottle of prosecco in my fridge....or tea in the pot? Tough one!

pigsDOfly · 27/07/2018 18:12

Black tea, such a Darjeeling is very refreshing. Regular tea with milk in it is, in my opinion, an abomination.

tentontruck · 27/07/2018 18:13

I think it had supposed to cool you down by making you sweat. I don't find sweating even more than I already am 'refreshing' though. I'm with you OP.

Love a cup of tea though. Even though I love the warm weather I am missing drinking tea.

thecatsthecats · 27/07/2018 18:14

Before someone comes along to trit out the science, the usual studies quoted aren't complete.

Yes, drinking tea will raise body temperature and stimulate cooling responses by the body.

Which misses the bloody point that YOUR BODY'S COOLING PROCESSES WERE ALREADY INADEQUATE TO DEAL WITH THE TEMPERATURE.

Human thermoregulation includes natural bodily cooling responses and behaviour - including choosing cooling drinks.

TheNavigator · 27/07/2018 18:15

Tea is the most refreshing drink in the world ever. Proper tea, with milk is manna from heaven & balm for the soul. I pity the fool that does not realise this.

Aeroflotgirl · 27/07/2018 18:16

Well I certainly appreciated cups of tea this week, very refreshing.

AnnieOH1 · 27/07/2018 18:16

Iced tea on a hot day fair enough, but hot tea (or coffee or hot chocolate or any other hot drink) just why???? Give me ice, lots of ice and top it off with more ice. The drink is almost irrelevant!

JustDanceAddict · 27/07/2018 18:17

My mum said the same. I never understood it - and I’m not a tea drinker! Only w cake as per ‘afternoon tea’.,

grumpy4squash · 27/07/2018 18:17

Tea doesn't dehydrate you, it's a myth. If you drink just tea and nothing else, you won't shrivel up.

Most days I drink only tea and alcohol. I'm not dehydrated.

Poodles1980 · 27/07/2018 18:23

You are obviously delirious from the heat, tea is theist refreshing delicious beverage of all time. I would drink it if I lived in the fire filled pits of hell.

Vitalogy · 27/07/2018 18:28

According to my mum it is. I'd go with the homemade lemonade type, now that's refreshing!

FlibbertyGiblets · 27/07/2018 18:43

Well no. It is a drink with jam and bread.

DramaAlpaca · 27/07/2018 18:45

Of course tea is refreshing. It's never too hot for a nice mug of tea.

foxtiger · 27/07/2018 18:46

I'd say it's more refreshing than coffee on a hot day, but not as refreshing as water. But then I drink my tea (and coffee) black - a hot milky drink (the only one I really like is hot chocolate) doesn't sound at all refreshing to me when it's hot.

BackforGood · 27/07/2018 18:51

YABU. Tea is a wonderful drink, and very refreshing.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 27/07/2018 18:53

I drink black tea, very refreshing even more so when cold

ScrumpyBetty · 27/07/2018 19:07

You are wrong. Tea is for all weathers. That is the law.

We should definitely be friends. Not many people understand how strongly I feel about a good cup of tea.
