To think tea is not a refreshing drink?!

Why on earth do people keep asking if I want a cup of tea?! Confused

It’s 34 degrees!

My Nana always used to say that ‘hot drinks cool you down’...do they fuck!

I can honestly say I’ve never been refreshed by a cup of tea. To me, a drink has to be cold to be refreshing. Don’t get me wrong, I love tea but it’s a comforting drink rather than a refreshing one, surely?

In the middle eastern countries black tea is the drink that people drink all day long! So that answers that one for you.

DayKay · 27/07/2018 19:12

Yanbu. It’s a warming drink not a cooling down drink.

Funko · 27/07/2018 19:17

Yabu and I am packing Yorkshire tea in my suitcase for our fortnight in Egypt!

Neptunesgiraffe · 27/07/2018 19:25

Tea is magical - it cools you down on a hot day and warms you up when it's cold. FACT.

ToadOfSadness · 27/07/2018 19:27

I drink gallons of tea, I am not dehydrated, it is no different to water as far as refreshing goes, although there are times when I need a drink right now and can't wait for tea so will drink water.

Agree, in the Middle East you are offered black tea a lot, and tea nana which is very refreshing.

BuntyII · 27/07/2018 19:32

Its a different kind of refreshing. I mean I wouldn't crave it on a hot day if cold cider or a tin of coke was available. But when you have been rushing about and stressed and have a headache or feel a bit sicky, a hot cup of tea is rejuvenating.

BuntyII · 27/07/2018 19:33

Just to add though it has to be Punjana though. None of your Tetley pish.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 27/07/2018 19:37

I do find it very reviving, even in hot weather. I'm not sure how much of that is psychological though.

OlennasWimple · 27/07/2018 19:39

Where I live it's the same sort of weather that you are having in the UK....all year round.... I drink a lot of tea!

CaptainCabinets · 27/07/2018 19:47

But is it a drink you make when you’re gasping with thirst?! I can’t imagine coming in from the garden on a day like today, boiling the kettle and gulping hot tea to refresh myself!

I don’t feel tea quenches my thirst at all!

Are you even human? I think I may report this thread Wink

champagneplanet · 27/07/2018 20:14

In all seriousness I love a good brew. I do find that it quenches my thirst, I find it very satisfying whatever the weather. What do you drink OP? Do you enjoy tea at all?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 27/07/2018 20:17

I would probably drink a glass of water while making my tea, so I could then enjoy my tea in a leisurely manner. The water on its own wouldn't do the same job.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 27/07/2018 20:19

My dear Nan used to say exactly the same!
I must admit that over the last few days I've only fancied water, diet pepsi with ice and lemon and wine

SugarPlumLairy · 27/07/2018 20:21

Tea is everything.

My fave is a normal breakfast tea bag with an added earl grey teabag, hardly any milk. So delicious AND refreshing!

If you're not enjoying your tea maybe let it brew a little longer and add less milk. Milky tea not refreshing at all.

SendYouUpInFlames · 27/07/2018 20:37

Ewww no.

A cold drink is refreshing. You have to wait for the cup of tea to cool before even sipping it. You can't quench your thirst!!

My nan literally drinks like 15 cups a day, and I seriously don't understand how she doesn't over heat because they make me 1000X hotter. In fact she only drinks tea or coffee. Nothing else.

No, that’s it. You’re not allowed to not like tea. Get thee to a nunnery immediately where you will be clothed in hair shirts and exorcised daily until you recant this heresy.

WrongOnTheInternet · 27/07/2018 20:43

(Whatever the circumstances).

CaptainCabinets · 27/07/2018 20:45

I do drink and adore tea (either Yorkshire or Twinings Earl Grey with the smallest splash of milk, hate milky tea!), green tea, lemon tea. All the tea. But not when it’s baking hot outside!

I’m all about the squash this week.

A cup of tea in warm weather does cool you down, works for me anyway.

AprilLady4 · 27/07/2018 20:58

People who drink HOT tea in this weather are addicted to the caffeine.

vampirethriller · 27/07/2018 21:05

Tea is a huge part of my lifeGrin whatever the weather. But I do drink more iced tea when it's this hot.

Itsveryhard · 27/07/2018 22:56

AprilLady4 I only drink decaf!!!

PickAChew · 27/07/2018 22:58

When I was young, it hit the spot on a hot day, but, at 48, it makes me sweat buckets and gives me the shits.strictly for occasional early mornings
