With that spelling mistake I would guess it's a scam.

2004bestyear · 27/07/2018 13:01

Yes

TheShapeOfEwe · 27/07/2018 13:01

Almost certainly - anything asking for your details is a big red flag and HMRC write rather than emailing.

If you want to reassure yourself you can call HMRC to check - but use a number you find online, not one from that email.

Littlepond · 27/07/2018 13:02

Scam. Tax rebates are processed automatically.

ThePricklySheep · 27/07/2018 13:02

Does it contain your name, reference number etc?

BritInUS1 · 27/07/2018 13:02

Absolutely a scam

Now I’ve read it properly and seen all the mistakes, yes, definite scam!

MarshaBradyo · 27/07/2018 13:03

Yeh I reckon many mistakes and HMRC has good security
You usually get an email saying you must log in to get any info

MissionItsPossible · 27/07/2018 13:03

Yes. Delete.

TheShapeOfEwe · 27/07/2018 13:03

Ooh yes just clocked the spelling mistakes - definitely a scam!!

NinkyNonk1 · 27/07/2018 13:04

Thanks guys.

Just it came through to my work email which I thought was a bit strange.

HMRC always send a letter (through the post)
You can usually then complete on line but they call you with a reference number once you have filled the postal details on line
Definitely a scam

moanykids18 · 27/07/2018 13:04

It couldn't be more obviously a scam if the subject header was "this is a scam"

MissionItsPossible · 27/07/2018 13:04

HMRC never email you about tax refunds

MarshaBradyo · 27/07/2018 13:05

Alright then

OurMiracle1106 · 27/07/2018 13:05

Yes! Hmrc don’t tell you you have to do something “now” or you can’t do it online.

Definite scam. If HMRC do owe you money they will send you a cheque!

lilyblue5 · 27/07/2018 13:05

Yes, HRMC did my tax refund via letter and cheque!
I’d forward it on to them to make them aware,

IJustHadToNameChange · 27/07/2018 13:05

If HMRC owe you money, they send a letter.

Emails are too easy to fake.

NinkyNonk1 · 27/07/2018 13:05

Thanks I have just let my IT department know as there is thousands of employees within the company

chemenger · 27/07/2018 13:06

Ask youself if you have ever given the tax office your email address, why they wouldn’t address you by name and include your NI number or other identification code. Of course it’s a scam.

bettytaghetti · 27/07/2018 13:07

Total scam. Not addressed to you directly and a tight deadline to reclaim making you panic and press without thinking.

longwayoff · 27/07/2018 13:08

Yes it is

chemenger · 27/07/2018 13:09

I actually think I got this one a couple of days ago, they gave the game away a little by addressing it to a group email address.

sallysparrow157 · 27/07/2018 13:10

As it happens I got an email from HMRC today - they only email me because I have registered with them to do so, and the email looks nothing like yours. Definitely 100% a scam.
