me and ds were in town today and almost got 'skated' or rolled into several times!!
i just don't think they should be used in a very busy town centre during half-term!

They are such a pain.

My stepsons have them. I refuse to let them use them in the apartment because they leave rubber skid marks all over the parquet floor. Outside they are a danger to themselves and others.

Stigaloid · 30/05/2007 14:53

I hate them. They are bad for kids backs as well as they put pressure on the wrong places of their feet and aren't very good for them.

was v pleased to see a sign in my local sainsbury's banning them - kids on heelies should not be skating round supermarket aisles!

babygrand · 30/05/2007 14:54

Spoilsports - places like Sainsburys have the best floors for heelies.

americantrish · 30/05/2007 15:40

that's probably why our local sainsbury's have banned them. it's probably the wax they use on their floors.

if my ds was of an age to want them and could use them carefully, i would have to think long and hard about it. then again, i would have the authority to NOT let him use them if i thought it was inappropiate.

(although i cant wait til he's old enough to be able to rollerblade, that'll be cool to do as a family!)

expatinscotland · 30/05/2007 15:44

Everytime I see a kid skating on them, I want to sneak behind them and give them a hard shove forward .

americantrish · 30/05/2007 15:50

(sniggers at expat) ;)

charmkin · 30/05/2007 15:59

Oh for god's sake

what a load of kill joys
they are a craze, a bit of fun
remember lolo balls or roller boots?

bloody nanny state. let kids have some fun

( waits for " well my kids have fun knitting their own lentilly wooden toys")

Drusilla · 30/05/2007 16:04

I think they're great, if I was 25 years younger I would get some! Shame they weren't around in the 70s. Really, I think there are far worse things kids could do.

dionnelorraine · 30/05/2007 16:08

Chandler from friends quote on these skating shoes -

"Kids kids, roll your way to childhood obesity"

Too lazy to walk these days!

expatinscotland · 30/05/2007 16:09

Yes, and shoving people using them from behind is a bit of fun for me .

americantrish · 30/05/2007 16:11

as i said, i have NO problem with them being used even on the sidewalk, but NOT when its crowded with people and these kids are knocking about into people, and worse, without even acknowledging it.

You are not unreasonable. The parents who allow their children to wear them in public are. I hate them.

hayes · 30/05/2007 18:31

don't like them much either tbh, dd has asked for a pair but I have told her no and now I am a horrible mummy

child at our school has broken ankle due to heelies accident

MaureenMLove · 30/05/2007 18:50

I agree that kids should keep to the parks wearing them and places where any of you lot might go! , but as to the dangers of wearing them - imho they are no more dangerous than when we were kids and rode bikes without helmets and wore roller boots without knee & elbow pads. So someone broke her ankle wearing them, kids have been doing the same on bikes and skates for years!

bewilderbeast · 30/05/2007 18:57

hate 'em especially in shops it really annoys me

Splishysploshy · 30/05/2007 19:00

My DS and DD have these, I do let them wear them when we go out but take the wheels out of them if they use them inappropriately. THey know if it is busy not to use them if it is quiet then they can.
As to the danger level ~ I don't see any greater danger with scooters, skates, pogo sticks, bikes, skateboards, skipping ropes, I could go on.

CorrieDale · 30/05/2007 19:15

Can't bear the bloody things. Perhaps if they were worn only in the park, I'd feel differently. But I don't expect to see children skating or cycling in the shopping centre, so I don't see why it should be OK to zip around shops in heelies. And yes, I am a bloody killjoy, but coping with a toddler in a packed shopping centre while 36 weeks pregnant ain't fun even when I don't feel like a skittle in a heely ball park.

mozhe · 30/05/2007 19:24

Oh come on they are quite good fun...my 3 DSs love theirs and we haven't killed anyone yet.

bewilderbeast · 30/05/2007 19:27

they might be fun for the kids but they aren't fun for anyone else, I am sick and tired of kids buzzing past me and knocking me when I am in shops or when I'm holding ds. I particularly hate it when they are with their parents who should know better than to let them be a menace in the supermarket. Scooters and rollerskates aren't allowed in shops for a reason, heelies are rollerskates and should be banned from indoor use!

soapbox · 30/05/2007 19:29

What a bunch of old miseries

My DCs have them, and must be super good, because they never bump into anything or anyone

I think they are fanbloodytastic and if I was a child again I'd pester and pester and pester until I got a pair. In fact I might just buy a pair anyway

pickledpear · 30/05/2007 19:36

the supermarket shopping has at last become fun for me as my kids can't wait to go they can wear their heeleys and it is better than a fun fair for them i understand the other people don't appreciate them but it makes my life easier so i don't care... selfish maybe but i have suffered enough in life so far so one pleasure please allow me also they have not caught on here yet so only few kids have them

lulumamasmentee · 30/05/2007 20:29

They are fine in parks etc, I can't stand them in supermarkets, I had a girl grab hold of my arm and 6mth pregnant bump in tescos to stop herself from falling over her mum said

"oh darling do be careful"

I had some other choice words... since when was it alright to skate around a supermarket?

SummertimeBluesuedeShoes · 30/05/2007 20:36

I like it when it is / has been raining so I can trip them up with my umbrella.

The irresponsible users are an absolute menace but then too many parents are too selfish these days to think about other people ...

janeite · 30/05/2007 20:48

I hate them and am quite shocked at parents who think it's okay for their children to use them in supermarkets.
