me and ds were in town today and almost got 'skated' or rolled into several times!!
i just don't think they should be used in a very busy town centre during half-term!

if i remember rightly there was a supermarket who put there staff on roller skates i cant think which one but it will come to me

bookwormmum · 30/05/2007 21:34

The hypermarket in Citie Europe have staff rollerblading around the shop but I think they're the runners for the till queries.

Otter · 30/05/2007 21:34

i think they are horrid

pickledpear · 30/05/2007 21:45

i am sure it was abroad but definately in america it is normal

peachygirl · 30/05/2007 21:56

I'm sure I read an article which said they were realy bad for childrens posture/ walking as they encourage the wrong type of walking - toe heel as opposed to heel toe.

Here, here Jura! Most of the supermarkets round here have banned them anyway, but B&Q is fab!!

sauce · 30/05/2007 23:19

Nanny State, eh? Want a pair for dd. Where can I get them?

babygrand · 30/05/2007 23:43

Route One stock them, but if you don't want the actual Heelys brand you could find something similar on Ebay.

pickledpear · 30/05/2007 23:49

cruzshuz are cheapest i founf but make sure you use irish shop not belgium one it not a proper shop and you gret diddled i been done

Eleusis · 31/05/2007 16:09

Jura, I am shocked and disappointed. If I spot you and little healy hoolem in my Tesco, I'm going to give her a good shove.

Sounded a bit like you were defending the... seeing how healy's are designed for nice smooth surfaces. You were going a bit soft.

OrmIrian · 01/06/2007 07:43

Ditto Jura. (earlier post I mean). My DS1 never uses them on crowded places but I have to admit that I've not seen these dangerous heely-wearers either. D'you think some of them have been drinking......?

Eleusis · 01/06/2007 08:19

Maybe I go to the wrong Tesco. Perhaps it's a sign of the neighborhood I live in.

Chopster · 01/06/2007 10:42

aims gun carefully at jura

and what about the bad effects on her legs/ankels?

Eleusis · 01/06/2007 10:46

Don't forget to load it.

Gingermonkey · 01/06/2007 11:02

My DD is begging me for some but I'll keel over and die first!!! (she also wants large hoop earrings, cropped tops and hoodies and high heeled shoes - all of which she can have when she leaves home and has a job to buy her own things ). I am a miserable old witch and I hate them - I always vowed I'd be a cool mum but it seems I am just mean and horrible (DD's words -she's almost 8). TBH my DD is so clumsy she'd end up in hopital the first time she wore them anyway.

Eleusis · 01/06/2007 11:12

You could buy them and stick a pin in the wheels so they don't turn.

sauce · 01/06/2007 11:17

Please tell me why you hate them! I'm thinking of getting some for dd.

Eleusis · 01/06/2007 11:18

Because they mall over my DD and whiz around uncontrollably at Tescos and at the Bentall Centre in Kingston.

OrmIrian · 01/06/2007 11:19

Would everyone feels as strongly about roller blades? Or is it just the fact that they look like ordinary shoes that everyone hates?

sauce · 01/06/2007 11:20

Ahhhh, I see. Well, they're very rare here in Switzerland for the moment & even if it were allowed (which it definitely isn't - Switzerland has rules for absolutely everything!) I wouldn't let dd use them in a shopping centre.
