What are you doing on here????

mrsFruitLoops · 15/07/2018 09:38

Wtf....I'd be taking to a&e and not even calling 111

Kittykat93 · 15/07/2018 09:38

A&e not mumsnet is the place for you!

FlippertyJibbit · 15/07/2018 09:39

A&E.

HobNobcentral · 15/07/2018 09:40

A & E NOW!!!!

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 15/07/2018 09:40

can you look at the ingredients on the bottle and then phone the poison helpline?
www.npis.org/telephone.html
although to be honest, if the 111 operator didn't tell you that, then probably no need.
AFAIK screenwash is mainly water with a bit of washing up liquid in it.
Try not to worry too much. I wouldn't go to A and E.

MrsSteptoe · 15/07/2018 09:40

Hoping OP has gone. A&E.

Hamandcheesebaguette · 15/07/2018 09:41

Bloody he'll. I don't have any children but I would be at A&E in a heartbeat if that was me.

I can only compare it to if one of my pets drank screen wash. They would be in the car to the emergency vet before I even had time to change out of my pjs.

When you say drank... how much do you mean?

Rocinante1 · 15/07/2018 09:41

It's really just soap; it's not going to poison him. He will be fine.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 15/07/2018 09:43

it's screenwash folks, not anti freeze!

KittyVonCatsworth · 15/07/2018 09:43

I don’t think it’s just soap they put in it, there’s also anti freeze. A&E immediately. Hope he’s ok x

Littlebluebird123 · 15/07/2018 09:43

I think I would have done that first if I'm honest.

I guess 111 aren't too concerned because he's showing no symptoms but they can take a while to show. Or maybe it was a tiny bit of diluted screen wash? So the risk is lower.

It's pretty poisonous though so I'd take him in.

Hope he's ok soon.

mrsFruitLoops · 15/07/2018 09:44

The tesco screen wash we use has anti freeze in it.... so not just water and soap!

In cases like this even if here is a tiny bit of doubt I would go to a&e... better safe than sorry.

Rocinante1 · 15/07/2018 09:44

It has some methanol in it, but to be poisoned then the kid would have to have drank a good bit. I'm assuming he got a sip before you grabbed it off him, or was he unsupervised around an open bottle and got a lot of It?

Just look out for the signs of methanol poisoning.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 15/07/2018 09:45

oh! well in that case, I take it all back, of course she should go.
I still think she should phone the poisons helpline first.

ScienceIsTruth · 15/07/2018 09:45

A lot of screen wash has antifreeze in it to stop it icing up in cold weather. Anti freeze is highly poisonous so please go straight to A&E.

ladyflower23 · 15/07/2018 09:45

I would go to a&e and take the bottle so they can see what's in it.

TheBitterBoy · 15/07/2018 09:46

It's not just soap, most commercial screen wash mixes have an amount of antifreeze in there to stop it freezing over winter. OP don't hesitate, you need to be at A&E, better safe than sorry.

Beckyda1 · 15/07/2018 09:47

111 checked poison data base and said it has something in to help/stop ingestion. Bitrex or something. It does say on the bottle too.

He drunk minimal amount. Less than 20ml.

Hope you are on your way to A & E op and good luck

Beckyda1 · 15/07/2018 09:48

Okay a&e it is. I didnt want to look mad goin against advice of 111. Thank you everyone

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 15/07/2018 09:49

There is definitely something in it to stop it freezing (remembering bitterly the time I put just water in the screen wash reservoir when I didn't have any screen wash and the reservoir splitting when the water froze!)

milkysmum · 15/07/2018 09:49

How much did he drink? And did it have anti freeze in it? If it's not got anti freeze in it tgen yes 111 were probably correct to advise obs at home. If anti freeze need to go to a&e immediately.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 15/07/2018 09:50

I'm amazed he hasn't been sick. Must have been like drinking soap. If you've spoken to 111 though I'm not sure you'll get better medical advice here. Go with your gut, if you're not happy then take him to a&e

Rocinante1 · 15/07/2018 09:50

Bitrex makes cleaning products taste absolutely foul, so if it gets in a kids mouth they usually spit it right out.

Look for vommiting, diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, yellowing skin etc. Or go up to hospital if you're really concerned.
