@reallyanotherone In fairness though she did ask on mumsnet... so you can't expect a load of medics to reply, just other mums saying how they would react? Which is why one would probably ask on mumsnet in the first place....?

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/07/2018 17:23

The product probably contains propylene glycol, not ethylene glycol, which is why 111 aren't overly concerned.
PG is used in food products e.g. as a carrier for flavours, so most people will have swallows some at some point. Also in vape fluids.
You can Google MSDS for must products, they are freely available on manufacturer's websites.
An MSDS will tell you what to do ( and what not to do) if swallowed, inhaled etc.
Useful for immediate first aid purposes

No, she asked the medical professionals on 111.

Then came on mumsnet to ask a load of non medically qualified mums. Who all said 111 were wrong and she should go to a&e.

Why bother having 111? Why not replace it with the wisdom of mumsnet instead, as clearly everyone on this thread knows better.

YourVagesty · 16/07/2018 21:14

Hope he's okay OP.

UneMoonit · 16/07/2018 23:40

I would immediately take the child to A&E in such a case, where you can a) look to have them examined/observed by a doctor, and b) have immediate medical help to hand at the moment it is needed, should expected/unexpected problems arise, rather than keeping an eye out for problems and driving them in after those problems have arisen.

UneMoonit · 16/07/2018 23:41

I very much hope everything is fine.

Beckyda1 · 17/07/2018 14:34

I asked for the thread to be removed but MN said no. I didnt go a&e I rang 999 because i panicked who then confirmed everything 111 HAD said.
And he was fine.

Some people are Really really mean. I come here to ask for advice not judgement and criticisim. Those of you who said about the bottle lid. It even says on the bottle the safety cap is not actually child proof.

And For those of you saying 111 would NOT say that. And clearly have access to these data bases that nobody else seems to other than the professionals. please for the sake of all children like my son who are crazy mischievous get ur self to the hospital and give some help to our over crowded under funded bursting at the seams NHS.

Thank you very much to all you kind people with genuine concern and kind words.

Funny that Hmm

Not aimed at you o/p, glad you are reassured. At the crowd of know betters on here who panicked you by telling you 111 were definitely wrong and you should rush to a&e immediately. With no basis in fact or knowledge, just a conviction they knew better.

NewPapaGuinea · 17/07/2018 20:15

Dunno if been asked already, but did the bottle have any warnings/symbols and/or child proof cap?

Notthemessiah · 17/07/2018 22:05

Glad all was OK and that the advice you received from 111 turned out to be correct. Thanks for posting to let us know too as it can't have been easy - hopefully some of the more hysterical posters will think twice next time having heard how much it made you panic.

JustVent · 17/07/2018 22:42

OP, someone could post a thread saying “My toddler farted 3 times in a row, should I be worried?” And the responses would all be

“A&E NOW!!”

It’s scary mongering, over the top, holier than though, judgemental, hysterical bullshit.

But hey, least you know now. Take what MN day with a pinch of salt.

Glad your son is ok. Flowers
