2yr old drank screen wash. Tesco one.. called 111 been told to keep an eye. I feel this isnt great advice. Wibu to take him a & e?

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 15/07/2018 09:51

Bitter just makes it taste awful it doesn’t stop indigestion it puts them off drinking it.

UpstartCrow · 15/07/2018 09:52

Go to A&E and complain about the advice you were given on the phone.

bitrex is added to 'help stop ingestion' - that means it tastes bad and its supposed to stop a child or animal drinking it.

In future if you suspect a person or animal has ingested something they shouldn't, you take them straight to A&E or a vet. Don't wait and see.

shakeyourcaboose · 15/07/2018 09:52

A and e and take bottle with you!

Queenofthestress · 15/07/2018 09:58

A&E!
That's bloody terrible advice! Mine licked the lid off a printer ink refill bottle a couple years ago, I turned around for a minute that's all. The advice was hope he pukes it up and get him seen immediately

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 15/07/2018 09:59

Wouldn’t even try 111. Go to a and e

Aridane · 15/07/2018 10:00

Good luck

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 15/07/2018 10:00

Tbh there’s been lots of deaths linked to 111 crappy advice.

brizzledrizzle · 15/07/2018 10:00

AFAIK screenwash is mainly water with a bit of washing up liquid in it.
Try not to worry too much. I wouldn't go to A and E.

FFS! OP, ignore that advice and go to A&E if you haven't gone already.

GinIsIn · 15/07/2018 10:01

Take the bottle with you and go straight to A&E

Ostagazuzulum · 15/07/2018 10:02

Make sure you take bottle or a photograph of ingredients with you so doctors can see what he’s had! Good luck!

GinIsIn · 15/07/2018 10:02

@brizzledrizzle except some screen washes contain an antifreeze element, which is incredibly toxic.

GinIsIn · 15/07/2018 10:04

In fact the Tesco one DOES contain antifreeze so you need to get to A&E immediately if you haven’t already done so.

GinIsIn · 15/07/2018 10:05

Apologies, @brizzledrizzle - meant to agree with you and flag original poster! Blush

AnnaMagnani · 15/07/2018 10:05

When you say drank - it's less than 20ml, it's so bitter he presumably spat it out straight away.

MimpiDreams · 15/07/2018 10:06

I asked DH for you as he's a chemistry prof. He says straight to A&E and take the bottle with you. Not all screenwashes are the same. Some are ok, some are narcotic and some are deadly. So get it checked.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 15/07/2018 10:14

A&E, right now.

Aridane · 15/07/2018 10:17

OP,has gone to,A&E!

brizzledrizzle · 15/07/2018 10:24

@fenellamaxwellspony NP, the bold didn't work so it wasn't clear.

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 10:31

its just like washing up liquid though isnt it?

Doyoumind · 15/07/2018 10:34

I've recently seen pink 'cherry' screen wash and orange ones. I think that's asking for trouble. I hope he is ok OP.

viques · 15/07/2018 10:37

There is usually advice on the bottle of what to do if the contents are drunk.Always look there first.

Ceecee18 · 15/07/2018 10:40

The Tesco one does say that it contains 'anti-freezing agents' but doesn't list the chemicals online. Does say it contains bitrex though, so hopefully he didn't ingest much. I'd definitely go to a&e with the bottle, hope he's okay OP.

Kittykat93 · 15/07/2018 13:58

RTFT people, she has gone to a&e now!

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 14:08

And you post that 4 hours after the last post why?

SparklyMagpie · 15/07/2018 14:11

Cannot believe the stupidity of some people.

Why would you not be straight there ?!

Makes you wonder what other situations they wouldn't immediately go to hospital for
