Help, dh and I can't agree, who is bu?

Dh and I can't agree on a holiday.

He has decided last minute that he wants to do a package holiday abroad. I'm fine with that, but having researched I don't believe that we can afford anywhere decent.

Dh is talking about going to a 2* in Benidorm because it's cheap, I don't want to.

We usually go to a nice cottage in the UK in a beautiful location and I don't want to trade that for somewhere crap abroad.

It's not that I don't want to go abroad, I want a peaceful, family orientated destination but everything I find he says is too expensive.

What does TripAdvisor say about the 2* place?

There's mixed reviews and all of these places, but I try to read between the lines because often it's about what you want from a holiday.

I stayed in a 2 * in Benidorm when I was 17 and it was bloody awful. Drunk stag do’s making a racket all night, cockroaches everywhere and I ended up getting the worst food poisoning of my life (ended up in hospital for 3 days on a drip). I found Benidorm in general to be a complete hole.
That’s just my experience though and I’m sure there are plenty of cheap and cheerful hotels that aren’t like a crack den.

Try British Airways Holidays - they have some amazing holidays which are very reasonable. Look it up under flights + hotels. For example, five days near Malaga, lovely hotel, last year - £295.

How much can you afford? Knowing the price of English cottages at peak times, it’s probably more expensive than some good package holidays.

Check secret escapes. Might be able to find a good deal on there. We did for Germany. I wouldnt use them for flights though, very over priced. We got flights separately.

YANBU, going to a 2* resort because it’s “cheap” sounds like a nightmare.

You could try Secret Escapes or similar for a last minute deal.

No one is being unreasonable, it's just a difference of opinion.

As others have said maybe keep researching other options until you find one you can agree on?

What is your budget?

I'd rather just have 2 days and one night in a nice European city than a week in a 2 star and in a crap party destination. If you're going to get drunk, then fine but if you want a nice family holiday, you will not get that in Benidorm in a 2 star place designed for drunks.

Send your husband on his own if he's so determined.

U.K. will be more expensive. You should be able to find an inexpensive but acceptable package to somewhere else in Spain (a previous poster mentioned Málaga) or elsewhere in Europe that suits his budget and your taste.

I was going to say neither but reading it him actually if he says its too expensive.

I'm booking a all inclusive to a 4* hotel Mallorca in september and its costing us £290pp not bad seem as our weekly food shop at home comes to £60 minimum

Turkey tends to be cheaper that Benidorm,. from when I have searched anyway. Last time I looked we could get 4* all inclusive for a week for me, DH, 2 kids for 900 quid.

No, I wouldn't want to go either. First thing I'd be doing was checking out trip advisor and showing him the reviews and 'dirty bathroom' photos that people post. I would also find out more about location - it's probably at the top of a very steep hill 5 miles out of town. Street view is good for that.

Or you could just agree and go. Let him see how crap it is.

2* in Benidorm will be an absolute shithole. I'd rather stay at home and have days out.

Dhs ceiling seems to be about £1600, but please bear in mind that there are 4 of us, we HAVE to go in school holidays because of the dcs school and I work in a school.

None of us have in date passports, so we are really looking late August to realistically have our passports back.

Dh also wants daytime flights.

We have a choice of several holiday cottages in the area we usually go, and if we book a one bed with full size sofa bed then it's £800 for a week, and they are very, very nice.
