Dh and I can't agree on a holiday.

He has decided last minute that he wants to do a package holiday abroad. I'm fine with that, but having researched I don't believe that we can afford anywhere decent.

Dh is talking about going to a 2* in Benidorm because it's cheap, I don't want to.

We usually go to a nice cottage in the UK in a beautiful location and I don't want to trade that for somewhere crap abroad.

It's not that I don't want to go abroad, I want a peaceful, family orientated destination but everything I find he says is too expensive.

I found Portugal to be expensive while there and the food wasn’t as good as other countries I’ve visited (we were in Albufeira). Cyprus is also quite expensive out there apparently. Greece is reasonable and I love the food, but I’ve been looking also and all the flights left seem to be unsociable ones. It may need to be Spain but not Benidorm! Party places are cheap because people go to drink non-stop! I’d recommend trying Jet2 holidays - if you can fly on a Monday or Tuesday it’s cheaper than a weekend.

Also the last week in August has the bank holiday in it so will probably be more expensive just remembered!

I second the posters above suggesting Girona. Jet2 fly there (cheaper than Ryanair!), and I think they do holidays too.

But if not , flights with Jet2, and then you’ve got a whole range of possible accommodation, from Airbnb to hotels on the coast (costa brava is nearby).

You can fly and do Euro camp ?

We're off to one in Spain end of Aug. Cost about £500 for the lodge (caravan with a bit of decking!) And about £750 for return flights for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Yes, look at flying to Girona and getting a Euro amp tent or apartment somewhere like Tossa de Mar, Calella etc.

Greek Islands also good and there's lots of nice 2 star apartments, which are just simple and clean. Stars are about facilities in a lot of cases. But Greece is too far if you're wanting a short flight.

But if you have a fairly limited budget, there will have to be compromises and crappy flight times could save hundreds so you have to be realistic.

Yes, look at jet2 holidays packages too.

OP has your husband ever been to Benidorm? I love it (the old town) but it's not for the faint hearted and a 2 star will be horrible and full of stag and hen parties. It's no place to take children.

Kit10 · 15/07/2018 08:33

Benidorm? No. 2 star? No. I'd rather stay home.

I wouldn't want to stay in the uk either (well unless the weather stays like this!!)

What's your budget?

WigglyBlossom · 15/07/2018 15:50

Is he coming around to your way of thinking yet OP?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 17/07/2018 13:12

I don't know why people think that basically anywhere abroad is a superior choice to a U.K. holiday

Any other year, the answer would be "look out of the window". Chances are it would be cold and/or raining.

DH and I were discussing a possible UK holiday next year but I'm not prepared to gamble on the weather. If you could guarantee good weather here, I'd probably never go abroad.
