To think the AMA section needs to go

It’s either

“I’m vulnerable as hell, ask me anything” (come and gawp at me)

or

“My job / life involves some sort of care for the vulnerable, ask me anything” (come and gawp at the misfits)

Fucking awful Angry

Agree

Saisong · 14/07/2018 08:13

You can hide whole sections, just sayin...

ScreamingValenta · 14/07/2018 08:14

I don't think the topic needs to go - you could report any threads which you feel are exploitative. Many of the threads are educational and interesting.

KirstenRaymonde · 14/07/2018 08:15

It’s a way for people to share their experiences and for people to ask questions in a clear way. People are often curious about things but not given the opportunity to ask what they’d like to. The people making threads are choosing to open up so have that control over the situation. I think it’s an interesting and useful idea, if you don’t like it don’t look at them.

Melliegrantfirstlady · 14/07/2018 08:15

I’ve been loving them!

Well the Footballers wife one. I haven’t seen any others talking about vulnerabilities

Clionba · 14/07/2018 08:24

The one that claims to be a bit royal *is hilarious!
*not at all royal.

Queenofthebrae · 14/07/2018 08:25

@Saisong how do you hide entire sections please? Been wondering for a while if this was possible.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 14/07/2018 08:26

I don't like many sections, doesn't mean they should go though.

Terriblydifficult · 14/07/2018 08:28

YABU

CambridgeAnaglypta · 14/07/2018 08:28

There aren't many now, YABU in creating a thread about it.

ajandjjmum · 14/07/2018 08:29

Don't like it? Don't open it.

It's my favourite section! It's not obligatory to read.

CanIhavedessertfirst · 14/07/2018 08:30

If they remove AMA then those posts are going to be posted elsewhere. YABU, just don't go on that section.

Risksrevealvalues · 14/07/2018 08:32

It’s not about me not liking it. If something is morally unacceptable, and taking advantage of the vulnerable is, then me not liking it/not reading it doesn’t make a difference.

That’s like saying ‘if you don’t want to work for Bright House, don’t.’ I don’t. I still think it’s taking advantage of the vulnerable. See what I’m saying here?

I've seen several OPs on there who are something that I am as well. With one exception (that I had reasons not to want to discuss on here), it never occurred to me that anyone would give a shit about those things. Seems they do. Amazing.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2018 08:40

If something is morally unacceptable, and taking advantage of the vulnerable is, then me not liking it/not reading it doesn’t make a difference.

Then report the ones you feel are wrong.

Getting rid of the section will do nothing - they were all over the topics before that. Unless you are proposing that MN ban all those threads? How would that work - there are surely plenty of other threads that follow a similar pattern.

gorgeoushazydaysofsummer · 14/07/2018 08:40

Which threads do you mean? I've enjoyed them, esp the pilot, teacher, and the footballer's wife.

gorgeoushazydaysofsummer · 14/07/2018 08:41

Report threads if you don't like them/are worried about them.

IWantMyHatBack · 14/07/2018 08:41

How do you hide whole topics? I looked yesterday but couldn't do it

CambridgeAnaglypta · 14/07/2018 08:41

There’s no way to verify if people are who they claim to be

I think most people realise this - as is the same all over social media.

bobstersmum · 14/07/2018 08:43

I think some of them are really interesting and I don't read the ones that aren't. So I don't want it to go.

Saisong · 14/07/2018 08:45

If you want to hide whole topics you need to find the 'Customise' page, which is an art in itself. I think last time I found link via the FAQ page. At the bottom is a bottom which allows you to select topics to hide. HTH.

Saisong · 14/07/2018 08:46

At the bottom is a button

lottiegarbanzo · 14/07/2018 08:46

Report, report, report.

The only ones I've read have been really interesting, informative and entirely, comfortably about the person posting (or adequately anonymised e.g. celeb nanny). Some offer real insights into areas of life that matter to people e.g. crematorium technician.
