Aibu to be pissed and upset by this?

Driving home from work and my phone rings in my bag. I dont have hands free etc so let it ring out and assuming it'd be DP or DM didnt attempt to stop safely to check it. 13minutes later im home and look at my phone. 1 missed call - no answerphone message etc. I didnt recognise the number so googled it - its a place ive applied for a job and am really keen about.
I called back to be told because I didnt answer the interview has been passed on to the next candidate on the list and theyre sorry.

And thats it.

Cause i didnt put myself and all other road users in danger to illegally answer my phone.. i dont get the interview.

YANBU I would be so annoyed. What an unfair process!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 11/07/2018 18:10

In that case, there is no way you want to work for them.....

Littlegoth · 11/07/2018 18:10

That sounds incredibly badly organised! You may have dodged a bullet if they are so unprofessional they can’t wait for a callback

Beetle76 · 11/07/2018 18:10

That sucks. Flowers You probably wouldn’t want to work in a culture like that anyway.
People ringing and then not leaving messages annoy me deeply!

BigDamnHero · 11/07/2018 18:11

Aw, OP, that's crap. Sad

I can definitely see why you'd be pissed off.

humblesims · 11/07/2018 18:11

You make a good point

jennyFromTheRock · 11/07/2018 18:14

You were unlucky.

They didn't want an unlucky employee...

Cheerbear23 · 11/07/2018 18:22

They could be missing out if their best candidate (you) because if their stupid interview process - it’s their loss.

Nikephorus · 11/07/2018 18:28

So they'd have expected you to answer the phone if you'd been sat on the toilet? YABU to be upset - you should be celebrating the fact that you didn't waste your time on a company that obviously would have treated you like crap.

Sparklesocks · 11/07/2018 18:29

You don’t want to work for such a flippant, slapdash company - well avoided!

I had this exact thing. Except I couldn’t answer because I was working. We went round in circles for a while but I did realise that working for them would be a lot more arguments like that. The right job will leave a message.

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 11/07/2018 18:30

I also think you dodged a bullet there.

BewareOfDragons · 11/07/2018 18:39

That's really shit. They're company is being run by shitty people.

Count yourself lucky.

Drumknott · 11/07/2018 18:45

Also remember your potential colleagues will have been chosen because they were looking at their phones waiting to ring, not because they're the best person for the job.

Doesn't augur job satisfaction to me...

Allthewaves · 11/07/2018 18:52

Did they say they were going to.ring on a certain day/time

halfwitpicker · 11/07/2018 18:53

Doesn't make any sense really.

DPotter · 11/07/2018 18:54

when I was applying for jobs after uni, I heard of one major company (can't remember which) who didn't even bother opening applications with 2nd class stamps on the envelopes. Some employers betray their culture before you even start - like others have said - you dodged a bullet. Good luck with future applications!

BeefyCakes · 11/07/2018 18:55

It's shit, but I think you've dodged a bullet.

coffeekittens · 11/07/2018 18:55

That’s a shitty thing to do, HSBC did that to me, you’ve had a lucky escape.

9amTrain · 11/07/2018 18:56

That's awful! I'd be tempted to leave a bad review of the company. What a shitty process.

malmi · 11/07/2018 19:00

Unfortunate and unfair, but if you were equally qualified and they only want to interview one person at a time for some reason, them's the breaks!

If the other person doesn't succeed at the interview they may ring you again, so I suggest you store the number in your phone and be willing to pull over to take the call next time!
