About this nursery 'award'?

My ds 'graduated'from his nursery last week as he is due to start school in September and they had a little ceremony that parents attended, in this ceremony certificates were handed out tot l parents including 'prettiest mum award'. AIBU that this is a bit of a shitty message to send to children about just judging people on looks and of course every child thinks their mum is the prettiest, it's their mum!

Oh my GOD! DId you complain? What bullshit is that!??

SpectacularAardvark · 09/07/2018 15:21

That is really weird. Who judged it, the staff or the kids? Confused

GreyGauntlet · 09/07/2018 15:21

Utterly shocking and a terrible message for children and adults. Complain.

halfwitpicker · 09/07/2018 15:22

Prettiest mum?

LeighaJ · 09/07/2018 15:22

"prettiest mum award"

Would it be in poor taste to ask if you won? Grin

sunlighthouse · 09/07/2018 15:22

What on earth?! That's awful. Where is this nursery?

LockedOutOfMN · 09/07/2018 15:22

Please complain. This is entirely inappropriate and a horrible message to give the children.

Enidblyton1 · 09/07/2018 15:23

Did every parent receive an award? That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard happen at a nursery.

theSFclub · 09/07/2018 15:25

Staff judged it! I didn't comapincomplain as I wasn't sure if I was overreacting , and as he is leaving I didn't know if it was worth kicking up a fuss.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 09/07/2018 15:26

That’s absolutely outrageous! Please complain!

theSFclub · 09/07/2018 15:28

The mum who won seemed pretty chuffed though!

LostInShoebiz · 09/07/2018 15:30

WTAF!? I’m baffled as to who would ever think this was acceptable, relevant or even remotely a good idea.

LostInShoebiz · 09/07/2018 15:31

That said, I feel pretty down on children ‘graduating’ from things when it is utterly meaningless.

puddleduckmummy · 09/07/2018 15:31

WTF???? I can't articulate how baffling I find this!

Underhisi · 09/07/2018 15:35

How strange. How did the staff judge it?

theSFclub · 09/07/2018 15:37

I have no idea! I wish I would have name changed as mum who won posted her certificate on social media and I would have posted it minus her name and the nursery obviously.

Prettiest mum.Shock
WTAF is that all about.
Is pretty face Graces money any prettier than everyone else's.

Mind you I'm having a go at her. It's not her fault is it. I bet she was mortified.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2018 15:39

She was a chuffed. Well I take my mortified comment back them. I'd be cringing.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 09/07/2018 15:40

Meaningless and hurtful award. I would complain! Imagine already feeling like you've lost yourself a bit in early-years motherhood or just not feeling confident generally and having this shit shoved in your face by judgy nursery staff. Makes you wonder what they say/think about the children.

I would complain about this and pointless nursery graduation. I wouldn't let my child attend, I think it's tacky and pointless.

squeelof1 · 09/07/2018 15:40

Sounds like the staff have yet to graduate mentally from high school.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/07/2018 15:41

What other awards were there??? That's bonkers....
Hottest dad
Ugliest grandparent
Parent most likely to be late

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2018 15:42

I'm with DSHatherway

longestlurkerever · 09/07/2018 15:44

Gosh the world never ceases to amaze me. I thought that you were talking about some award that every child would give to their own mum and even that'd be a bit inappropriate. This is Shock

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2018 15:45

I don't think you'll be the only parent peeved about this.
I'd name and shame them if it were me.
If thats how they value people on what they look like they shouldn't be in operation.
