About this nursery 'award'?

My ds 'graduated'from his nursery last week as he is due to start school in September and they had a little ceremony that parents attended, in this ceremony certificates were handed out tot l parents including 'prettiest mum award'. AIBU that this is a bit of a shitty message to send to children about just judging people on looks and of course every child thinks their mum is the prettiest, it's their mum!

OP posts:
glamorousgrandmother · 09/07/2018 15:45

Totally unacceptable. Did the mums know beforehand that they were being judged on their looks? I doubt it.

imwideawake · 09/07/2018 15:46

I can ksort of imagine this happening in some places in America, places where they're heavily into pageants and girls being pretty being the most important thing in the wor, but I'm amazed that it happened in this country?

Bizarre.
You should complain. At least it might stop it happening next year.

imwideawake · 09/07/2018 15:47

in the world

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/07/2018 15:47

Shock. What were the others?

SD1978 · 09/07/2018 15:49

Ooh- I could have won most dishevelled parent due to working permanent nights and being upright for max of ten minutes before I used to do pickup. 😂😂

Beeziekn33ze · 09/07/2018 15:54

Damn silly, I guess I'd be up for 'most harassed'!

ReanimatedSGB · 09/07/2018 15:56

Yes, odd and inappropriate. If every DC had been given a 'Best Parent in the World' card to give to their own parent, that would have been somewhere between sweet and naff, but it's really not great to suggest to little kids that being 'pretty' is important.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 09/07/2018 15:56

I would definitely explain to them that this is not OK. Worrying that they didn't see that for themselves though.

Myotherusernameisbest · 09/07/2018 15:57

I think I would have been a bit WTF at a graduation for nursery children. But I'd have been a bit WTA Fuckity fuck fuck at awards for parents, especially that one!

Please tell us what the other categories were! And did you win one?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2018 16:00

They can't honestly think even in their wildest dreams that that was okay.
Surely to God

KatharinaRosalie · 09/07/2018 16:03

Shock What the actual fuck?! Did you have a swimsuit round too?

glamorousgrandmother · 09/07/2018 16:04

I think I would have been a bit WTF at a graduation for nursery children. I agree, I was a Nursery Teacher for about 20 years and never considered doing this. It's quite recent like having a Prom, not just at the end of secondary school but at the end of year 6 with limo and everything. It's madness.

Underhisi · 09/07/2018 16:05

Suggest the parents do one for staff

Shaboohshoobah1 · 09/07/2018 16:07

Yes! Judge the staff on their looks - you could take votes and everything. See how they like it! Bloody hell - definitely complain. It sounds bonkers.

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 16:08

Where is this nursery, 1970?

actuallyquitesmall · 09/07/2018 16:08

You mean there wasn't an award for dads / grandparents / childminders / random others?

I'm appalled Shock

SheepyFun · 09/07/2018 16:09

Also, assuming one award per child, what does this say about the child - the best thing about you is your mum's looks (good or bad)? That's hardly a great message to be sending the child either.

sunlighthouse · 09/07/2018 16:09

Suggest the parents do one for staff

This ^^

ChampagneontheNHS · 09/07/2018 16:09

This is outrageous and you would be right to complain. Problem is, the mindset who could even think of that ‘award’ would only dismiss you as jealous because you didn’t win.

halfwitpicker · 09/07/2018 16:12

as mum who won posted her certificate on social media

^^

of course she did
Shock

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/07/2018 16:13

Posting it on SM shows how vapid she is tbh

Her0utdoors · 09/07/2018 16:14

Christ, and I thought my DC's nursery was pushing their luck having a Princess and Pirates theme for their graduation! I'm happy there's a graduation event though, I like that the transition to school reception is being marked.

fruitbrewhaha · 09/07/2018 16:16

urgh, that is disgraceful.

I'd complain to Ofsted.

Atlastatlastatlast · 09/07/2018 16:30

She put it on social media? Jeeze when I was 16 I was picked as prettiest girl at some hotel event and I was too embarrassed to tell anyone except one friend. A grown woman boasting about it to all and sundry is daft.

I agree though that if you complain it will be shrugged off as 'dead jell,' by the nitwits that thought this schoolgirl nonsense was okay.

MizCracker · 09/07/2018 16:32

Is there a reason why they’d want to kiss this particular mum’s arse, do you think? 🤔
