About this nursery 'award'?

My ds 'graduated'from his nursery last week as he is due to start school in September and they had a little ceremony that parents attended, in this ceremony certificates were handed out tot l parents including 'prettiest mum award'. AIBU that this is a bit of a shitty message to send to children about just judging people on looks and of course every child thinks their mum is the prettiest, it's their mum!

Did we fall thru time and land in the 1950s?

Tjzmummabear · 09/07/2018 16:33

I wondered that. Is she aesthetically pleasing? Or the backend of a bus?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2018 16:35

"Is there a reason why they want to kiss this mother's arse."

She's probably giving them back handers.

ClarkWGriswold · 09/07/2018 16:38

Fucking hell! I’ve heard it all now. I’d have loved to have been there though OP. What were the other parents faces like?

ravenmum · 09/07/2018 16:40

Time to start making a "Stupidest Idea" award to present them with.

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/07/2018 16:46

That's outrageousShock

It's the sort of thing that young kids might actually get upset about if their mum didn't win! My DS frequently tells me I am the best/prettiest/nicest mummy and to him, I am. If course his friends all think their mummy is nicest/prettiest!

What an awful message to send to children!

Was there a most handsome dad award?

sockunicorn · 09/07/2018 16:47

that is ridiculously amazing. i would be complaining.

what other awards were there?

did everyone get one or just the select few?

incredible.

Plimmy · 09/07/2018 16:49

The Prettiest Mum Award is too stupid and demeaning to need any further objection.

But the idea of a ceremony (OP, I know you put ‘graduation’ in quotes) for leaving nursery hasn’t been slated enough. FFS, every pathetic little step or change has to be marked now.

My disdain for anyone who thinks it a good idea for tiny children to be introduced to this nonsense is absolute. But then I think school ‘proms’ are a load of expensive, pointless crap.

Caribou58 · 09/07/2018 16:51

Awful. Sexist. Sends extremely inappropriate message to children AND parents.

I'd complain, in writing on the above grounds.

Caribou58 · 09/07/2018 16:53

I agree. The sight of tots dressed in miniature gowns and caps makes me feel slightly ill. The money spent on 'proms' (most of the kids aren't even leaving the school, ffs) is obscene now - why can't they just have an end of term disco?

Have parties or special assemblies, by all means.

runninggnomeintothedesertfree · 09/07/2018 16:56

Geesh that’s stupid! Let me guess they had smartest dad too? Typical sexism. I hate children's graduation ceremonies why not just keep it to university

CombineBananaFister · 09/07/2018 17:03

That is really weird. Yanbu and it would worry me that as a nursery they couldn't see that it was slightlying inappropriate? Really want to know the other awards now though ! Grin

theSFclub · 09/07/2018 17:07

It was the only adult award, the kids awards were fairly normal, kindest friend etc. The mum thinks that the other mums were giving her evil looks Hmm

OP posts:
Betsy86 · 09/07/2018 17:09

Only one adult award lol how awkward and strange Blush

Well they probably were giving her evil looks. I mean let's be honest people get jealous of each don't they. Especially if it's a mum who's feeling a bit down and then she feels she's getting judged on her looks.

codswallopandbalderdash · 09/07/2018 17:14

We had graduation day from nursery today. It was lovely. Took 10 minutes for manager to say a few words, then children to get their certificate and a small gift. Then there was a fun day of bouncy castle, silly races, sandcastle building, and dancing. No batshit crazy awards for us

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/07/2018 17:29

Even weirder... Did you see the award being given, op; or just the announcement on Facebook?
Maybe she did it herself?
Which would be only marginally stranger than the Nursery awarding it to her Grin

Timeisslippingaway · 09/07/2018 17:30

I went to my son's graduation from nursery a few weeks ago. There was no awards, even for the kids, just their certificate and a round of applause for each child.

Fluffyrainbows · 09/07/2018 17:40

I hope they didn't have an ugliest mum award.
YANBU that is appalling.

DailyMailFail101 · 09/07/2018 17:47

How very strange, if they think that was an appropriate award what rubbish have they been spouting to the children?

ravenmum · 09/07/2018 18:18

Just the one award? Does one of the staff fancy her?

Weirder than weird and depressing too. And the only award?! What?? I don't even mention words like pretty etc because it's not important and they'll hear enough of it as they go up along and can no longer avoid Disney

And it's maddening that yes, you'd be thought of as jealous if you said anything. Eyes sore from rolling.
