Neighbors fucking windchimes

Wellthisunexpected · 03/07/2018 12:37

Our neighbors (not friendly, very stand offish & not for considering others but keep themselves to themselves) have a set of huge windchimes in one other the trees. Their garden backs on to the side of our house and the windchimes can be heard with any window open.

I know I abu, it's their garden to do with as they wish BUT the incessant tinkly clanging is driving me fucking bonkers!

Thought this was about me.

But I'm totally friendly and nice and mine aren't in the trees.

And they're bamboo. No tinkling.

Wellthisunexpected · 03/07/2018 12:41

I think I could cope with that JenBarber theses are big and metal, made from car parts I think.

Wind chimes are really really annoying. I think it's inconsiderate and to have them unless you live nowhere near anyone else. There are so many lovely natural noises to listen to such as birds and leaves rustling in the wind it's awful to have to listen to wind chimes of any sort.

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 12:46

Go over when they're out and sellotape it together! Grin

ToadOfSadness · 03/07/2018 12:48

Mine were bamboo, had 2 of them, nice in a gentle breeze but awful in a wind and they were at the end of the garden. Wind (not fart related) at night meant bad tempers in the morning, I took them down for the winter and they didn't go back out.

Someone on the other side of the fence has metal tinkly ones, fortunately only hear them outside but they are annoying so I fully understand why people get upset over the bigger ones.

Not sure there is anything you can do, unless you can reach them and give them to a scrap dealer. Or maybe get some kind of instrument you can hit with a stick and hang it by their house.

Kingsclerelass · 03/07/2018 12:48

I’m with you on this. My neighbours have a huge set of metal chimes and they remind me of horror films so not great for a good night’s sleep. My dp has offered to climb over their wall and dress them in old socks. Smile

divadee · 03/07/2018 12:49

Ah the old thing of if your neighbour has windchimes, you have windchimes.

No advice but I hope they break soon!

annandale · 03/07/2018 12:51

My neighbour has a very quiet set but they still infuriated my Dh as he was in the garden more than neighbour was. I had a friend who needed to sleep during the day and her neighbour's chimes nearly drove her mad. I think they are insanely stupid things that should only be in the garden when you are, or should be hung up in a window.

SavoyCabbage · 03/07/2018 12:52

God I hate them so much. Random clanking all the live long day and fecking night.

strawberrypenguin · 03/07/2018 12:52

Oh god. I'd hate this. I'd have to ask them to take them down.

or cut them down in the middle of the night

JuneMyNameIsJune · 03/07/2018 12:58

I feel your pain. My neighbour is the same and every bloody time I want to sit in the garden I have to endure incessant bloody tinkling. It isn't at all relaxing.

I'm loving the idea of creating my own set using car parts Grin

KittyMcKitty · 03/07/2018 13:05

Haha I very nearly wrote a similar thread the other day - our neighbours have them in front and back garden - metal, very noisy and conveniently positioned as close to our garden as possible. I’m in bed at tge moment with the tail end of a migraine - it’s quite windy and they’re making a fucking racket- I hate them so much. The only thing which drowns out tge noise is when our neighbour is yelling st her children or they’re screaming (this is a frequent occurrence)

MidniteScribbler · 03/07/2018 13:12

I love windchimes Blush. I think they sound lovely. I don't have any of my own at my main house, so I'm safe there with the neighbours. I do have a lovely set at my holiday house (which were painted by my mother), but since the closest neighbour is 8 acres away, I think I'm safe with them.

Notquiteagandt · 03/07/2018 13:17

Feel your pain. Our neighbors somewhere have them. Quite eeary when you hear then in the night. Only time i noticed them annoyingly.

SweetLathyrus · 03/07/2018 13:20

At our last house our NDN had 32 (yes you read that right, THIRTY-TWO) sets of small wind chimes, in a small suburban back garden - there may have been more but I couldn't see the whole garden. We moved.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 03/07/2018 13:22

I have wind chimes, but they're properly tuned Woodstock ones. Tbf, I only got mine because I love my neighbours ones!

UpstartCrow · 03/07/2018 13:23

Our neighbour had huge wooden ones with a coconut at the bottom until wasps built a nest in it Grin

specialsubject · 03/07/2018 13:25

if i booked a holiday cottage and found it had windchimes they would be down in seconds.

Gromance02 · 03/07/2018 13:29

ToadOfSadness Do you think your neighbours could hear them? I am of the mind that you should never do anything to unnecessary to annoy your numbers.

Hont1986 · 03/07/2018 13:48

Oh, well if your wind chimes are properly tuned...

SluttyButty · 03/07/2018 13:50

Haha I read the title and thought shit, is this about me 😂

I have a set on my kitchen window but they weren't cheap ones and they don't make a horrible clanky noise, just delicate twinkly chimes Grin

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/07/2018 13:52

The Woodstock chimes really are lovely!

123wtf456 · 03/07/2018 13:56

My neighbour has just done this too, glad it's not just us that hates them. We have spoken about it loudly in the garden - saying how antisocial and annoying they are but so far no effect. We have a six foot fence so no chance of nipping over to cut them down, might have to get inventive.

PragmaticWench · 03/07/2018 13:57

DH put up a wooden set in our garden and I'm afraid I took them down in a strop. Fucking awful things! He thought I was joking to start with and refused to take them down. I just can't bear them.

SluttyButty · 03/07/2018 14:37

Ooh I just looked it up, mine are Woodstock wind chimes.
