Photo of nude baby

Genuinely interested to see if I'm being unreasonable here... what do you think?

So today my husband was playing with our baby daughter in the paddling pool having the loveliest time. She just splashes around in there nude in this heat and loves it! He took a funny photo of her playing with her duckie in the water and shared it on our family whatsapp group - with both aunties and uncles. I do think the photo is cute and I'm glad they had a lovely time playing but I'm fuming because my baby is nude in this photo and she has her legs wide open!! He way she's sitting isn't very dignified and I don't want everyone having photos of that!!!

Husband thinks it's just a funny photo shared with family - AIBU??

Crazy to even think nakedness = pornography.

It's very disturbing indeed. I just hope none of these people happen to have kids, there is something genuinely wrong in some people.

HoneyBadgerApparently · 29/06/2018 18:11

@Notquiteagandt you are an adult who gave consent. This baby didn't.

Lizzie48 · 29/06/2018 18:11

I wouldn't be comfortable with this at all. I'm not saying it's child abuse at all, as the intentions were completely innocent (although very naive IMO). However, it just doesn't feel right to take a picture of a baby with her legs apart and her private parts on display. Once a photo is on the Internet, it can be misused very easily as well.

Obviously my view is skewed as a result of having been abused as a child. I don't judge anyone for taking photos like that, but I don't think it's appropriate or wise to post them online.

HoneyBadgerApparently · 29/06/2018 18:13

@ikeepaforkinmypurse I have 3 thanks. And I've taught them the underpants rule.

littlemissdynamite · 29/06/2018 18:13

Well said @lizzie48 ^

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 29/06/2018 18:13

Unfortunately, and as always, this thread has attracted some perv who are having a blast. The OP had a valid question, but I hope MNHQ now remove the thread, or at least delete the comments from weirdos. We are talking about babies, it's sick.

I also hope their IP address is being forwarded to the appropriate authorities to investigate things a bit further.

NotTakenUsername · 29/06/2018 18:14

there is something genuinely wrong in some people.

Oh my god yes we heard you the first three times. It’s getting boring now. Could you either meaningfully contribute to the conversation or move on elsewhere?

littlecabbage · 29/06/2018 18:14

I would not class this as sexual abuse (as the posters crying “child porn” seem to be implying. Your husband’s motivation was clearly just to take cute photos of his daughter.

However, I would agree with you - never share naked photos on social media, no matter how young the child. You don’t know who may end up looking at /getting sexual gratificiation from them, and whether the photos could be used to humilate your daughter in the future. YANBU.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 29/06/2018 18:15

There really IS something VERY wrong in some people, it's very scary.

Teggun · 29/06/2018 18:16

Actually I think it is possible that your DH may have committed an offence.

sludgie · 29/06/2018 18:16

It's not like the days when it was a physical photo kept in the family album.

For me it would be a no.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 29/06/2018 18:17

I'm obviously reading the photo description totally different to other people. This is a youngish baby sat up in water with her legs stuck out at an angle which is a pretty normal way for a baby to be sat. There is no way there is full genitals on view at worst you will have a tiny bit showing probably just the crease. Why are people imagining a baby laid on it's back with it's legs stuck up that is not the description

Tillytrotter123 · 29/06/2018 18:18

Lizzie48 - I'm sorry to hear what happened to you as a child. I don't however think this makes your 'view skewed,' I think it's unfortunately realistic and I'm always very wary (possibly too much so) about anyone who has any contact with my daughter. Like a pp said the photos can end up in bad places.

Teggun · 29/06/2018 18:18

It is an offence under s 1 of PCA 1978 to:

take, permit to be taken, or to make any indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child;

What is indecent?

What is indecent is for the jury to decide, based on a recognised standard of proprietary. The test is objective and the circumstances in which the photograph came to be taken and motive of the taker are not relevant; it is the photograph of the child which must be indecent not the defendant’s

Good post @tillytrotter123 ^

Baroness, from the op:

“because my baby is nude in this photo and she has her legs wide open!! He way she's sitting isn't very dignified”

YummySushi · 29/06/2018 18:20

YANBU..

And even if you are, she is your baby and ur allowed to put the rules. But you are not.

We are supposed to teach kids that what’s under the pants is not for exposure and that even if mum wants to clean that area it’s better to ask... so sharing it isn’t the safest or in their best interest

I suggest editing the photo with an emoji and sending it out and asking everyone to delete the old one “ at the request of her mother who does not like her daughters nude photos shared”.

Pedophilia is real.. also when she grows up I’m sure she wouldn’t like knowing that her privates were on display to cousins who might get a copy.

littlemissdynamite · 29/06/2018 18:21

Beat me to it @nottakenusername

Yeah the Op did say that1

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/06/2018 18:21

My sister sends me naked pictures of my nieces all the time. They're kids. YABU.

littlemissdynamite · 29/06/2018 18:21

Should have been a ! not 1 ...^

BaronessEllaSaturday · 29/06/2018 18:22

Teggun I'm obviously being thick here but can you copy and paste the description of this indecent image. I've been back to check and actually I can't find where the op actually states anything is even visible at all?

littlemissdynamite · 29/06/2018 18:22

Good points @Yummisushi

The baby is sat with legs apart, I presume the photo was taken from above so what exactly is going to be visible?
