Rubyslippers7780 · 28/06/2018 15:42

Just had a call to the landline. Kids answered. Guy wants to speak to a Mr xx who has never lived here. We have lived here for 10 years. Knew previous and only other owner ( not mr xx ).
I say to call centre guy ' sorry Mr X does not live here and has never lived here. We are registered with the telephone pref service so please remove this number' guy gets angry with me - i can hear it is a call centre in the background. Guy is shouting that I am a liar and mr xx lives here and that i am rude. I hang up. He keeps phoning. 3 times in a row, a gap then again. I did 1471 and got the number ( wales ) but it does not accept incoming calls as i was going to report. What do i do now?

Tell them that, in line with the General Data Protection Legislation that came into force on 26 May 2018 you are withdrawing their consent for them to contact you and that if you receive any further contact you will report them to the ICO who are at liberty to issue fines of up to €20m to companies found to be in violation of the legislation.

RayRayBidet · 28/06/2018 15:45

If he calls again just say "nevermind Mr X, what are you wearing?"

SK166 · 28/06/2018 15:45

your* consent

witherwings · 28/06/2018 15:46

How annoying for you, and so rude!
Google the number and see if it's a valid company and then make a complaint.
Is there a place on the TPS website where you can report a number?
Can you block numbers on your handset? Phone your phone company and ask them to block the number.

RayRayBidet · 28/06/2018 15:46

Just wait for the next call and in a husky voice say "nevermind Mr X, what are you wearing?"

Graphista · 28/06/2018 15:46

You report to tps. You've got the number that's all you need.

Sounds like a credit agency or debt collectiors maybe? Have you Googled the number?

I once did this and after a bit of looking, tracked it back to a firm in Singapore. I then looked up the MD, head of Legal and their business development director and emailed them all. They were quite apologetic.

Pinkyponkcustard · 28/06/2018 15:47

Can you google the number from 1471 to find the company connected and then try another number for them?

MrsJayy · 28/06/2018 15:48

He isn't looking for a Mr Hunt is he ? That is what Iget. If they phone again ask to speak to the supervisor/manager the cheeky bugger will not be long incutting you off OR what I did was said Mr H wasn't in could I take a message .

Haberpop · 28/06/2018 15:48

Report the number to the TPS

Topseyt · 28/06/2018 15:49

It could well be a scam of some sort.

Call BT Fraud department. Give them the number and they might investigate.

I'm not sure if or how you can block a number on a landline. It would be useful sometimes though, without doubt.

catsandtigers · 28/06/2018 15:50

Ever since we bought these BT call blocker phones, we have had no nuisance calls at all.

The way they work is that you create a phone book containing all your friends, family, doctor, employer etc. Anyone calling from one of these stored numbers is put straight through. Everyone else is asked to say their name. Cold callers never bother so don't get put through. We've had this phone system for about 5 years. It's brilliant.

Just tell them he’s died Smile

Mrsharrison · 28/06/2018 15:52

Pretend to be Dominos Pizza and ask for their order while ignoring their questions.

"Do you want the meat feast deal"?
"Extra pepperoni"?

Etc. Huge fun with this one.

I usually do the Chinese takeaway.

Rubyslippers7780 · 28/06/2018 15:55

I googled the number and someone else said they had 10 calls from that number but i can't find what company it is.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/06/2018 15:56

Have you asked who they are?

Rubyslippers7780 · 28/06/2018 16:07

He never said the companies name..just shouting that i am rude and a liar. It was definitely a call centre. Phone has gone quiet now. Will put in a complaint about the number. He was really aggressive and nasty. I just repeated that no mr xx lived or had ever lived here and to stop calling.

Try the website who called me. If it’s a scam just block the number.

Quartz2208 · 28/06/2018 16:14

I (having being in my address for 7 years) gets calls from British Gas etc for a person I just hang up

That said even though the person they ask for never lived here - the people we bought off took their telephone number with them as they moved with the area - BT gave us another one which presumably was from this person

Quartz2208 · 28/06/2018 16:14

As an aside phone numbers are not specific t

Topseyt · 28/06/2018 16:16

If it is a scam (probably is) then there may well be no company name. Just a number, if that.

If they call again then just tell them that they must have the wrong number and then put the phone down without engaging any further.

They probably aren't from any bona fide company. Unless you count Bullshitters Anonymous there.

dottierotten · 28/06/2018 16:18

Answer the phone "Hello Saucy Sarah's phone sex line. How can I make your fantasies come true?".

Alternatively I like to waste their time by asking them to "just hold on while I ...." and then make straining noises and flush the toilet/ shout something disgusting at an imaginary person. They usually hang up pretty quick. Childish but it amuses me..

EatTheChocolateTeapot · 28/06/2018 16:19

Let it go to voicemail every time. They won’t leave a message and will eventually stop calling if you don’t reply.
