Neighbours’ swimming pool

This isn’t an AIBU as I know I am completely being VVV U. But does anyone have any sympathy with me?
I completely resent my neighbours and their swimming pool. I completely resent being in the garden when they have a pool party and they don’t invite us! It is sheer unadulterated jealousy!

For me, I wouldn't be the slightest bit jealous as I have never wanted a pool- to me, it would be a waste of space for something I used summer time only and they make me terribly nervous with young children and animals around! I have three sets of friends with pools, not one uses theirs more than a few months during summer and then it sits, either going green or with them having to pay for maintenance through the year. Every year they have dead animals floating in them. Not for me! Maybe if I lived in a year round warm climate I would feel differently.

On the street I grew up in, there was a house with a pool. I can’t say I was envious as I lived in the north of Ireland! I thought they were completely mad to have one.

If I lived somewhere warm yes I’d probably love to have a pool! So, yanbu, weather dependent.

I dunno friends of ours have a pool. It was that lovely hot week in May and I was round their house, I said I would envy them for being able to dip in the pool later.

Uh no it takes a week to heat up apparently so by the time they’d sorted it out the weather would have changed and gone.

Wankers! YANBU in the slightest. mumbles about smug pool owning party people. Humph

Be one of the CF's and have a dip whilst they are at work - there seems to be enough of them about.

My parents have a pool. I'm very jealous of it!

I do have a key though (even though I've never lived in this house!) and will sometimes pop over if they're not in. Mum doesn't mind as long as I keep it tidy and put the cover back over when I'm done :)

You can try making friends with the neighbours, but I know my parents don't like having anyone but family in their pool.

I'd rather have my garden tbh, but if I had neighbours with a pool I'd make friends and ask if I could use it, perhaps offer to chip in with cleaning costs.
The upkeep and maintenance would be too much for me.

We had a pool in the garden when we lived in Singapore. It was great for the children to splash about in but not big enough for an adult to do 40 lengths for proper exercise so I used to go elsewhere to a club for that.

The downside of your own pool is the maintenance of course - the cleaning, adding the chemicals, etc etc. In Singapore a man came to do that as part of our lease but friends I know who do it themselves spend ages getting leaves out!!

No, YADNBU. I live in south of France. Neighbours on both sides have pools. Do they ever invite us over? No they don't! And the neighbour on one side is always away with work. Will he build a gate in his fence so we can get into his garden? Will he give us a key to unlock his pool cover so we can 'pool-sit' for him? No he will not. It's just selfish IMHO

My friends bought a house with a pool and have filled it in. Think of the following:

1. Cost of the water
2. Cost of heating the water
3. Only being able to use for a few weeks a year
4. cost of maintenance
5. real risk of depreciating property

Just jump in when they aren't looking ha ha

I live somewhere hot and sunny all year and we have a pool (as do pretty much all our neighbours). TBH we don't use it every day, but we do have brilliant pool parties sometimes. OP - consider yourself invited

When you hear them having a pool party invite the neighbours to a BBQ. When they say they can't attend as they have friends round in the pool just say, "Oh that's no problem. We'll bring the BBQ round to yours". Good Luck with that 😉

We're looking at a rented flat with a communal outdoor pool on Saturday!
It's not in the best location and it's not as nice as some other flats we're looking at...but pool!!
(we will probably be sensible and rent somwhere cheaper and cliser to the station)

Eh, think of them as being like convertible owners. Smug for about two weeks of the year, then stuck with the thing the rest of it. Once the heatwave is over, they’ll be spending the rainy July days looking sadly out the window at the pool they can’t use, clutching their inflatable unicorn...

I wonder how much it costs to run a pool in this country? It always seemed like something that would be a money pit.
