Neighbours’ swimming pool

This isn’t an AIBU as I know I am completely being VVV U. But does anyone have any sympathy with me?
I completely resent my neighbours and their swimming pool. I completely resent being in the garden when they have a pool party and they don’t invite us! It is sheer unadulterated jealousy!

30m? That's the stuff of dreams EdWinchester (great username btw, I had an ex who looked like him). Grin Guessing the gardens are a fair size.

EdWinchester · 25/06/2018 16:44

Yes, they’re very fancy and have acres.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/06/2018 16:47

Pool party? I’m picturing something very Austin Powers OP!

ScreamingValenta · 25/06/2018 16:47

YANBU. I would be Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy at this!

SweetSummerchild · 25/06/2018 16:47

Our neighbours have a pool. I am insanely envious for about 3 weeks a year when it is warm enough to use it and hot enough that you’d actually want to.

For the other 49 weeks of the year I think they are idiots for giving up that much garden for something so pointless.

Fintress · 25/06/2018 16:54

Family members have moved abroad and their new house has a large pool. We said we were really envious and they told us the novelty wore off quite quickly and they hardly use it.

HellenaHandbasket · 25/06/2018 17:13

My parents have one which we have free access to, which is the best of all worlds IMO. It is fabulous, and in use about 8 months of the year...but we don't have to pay for or maintain it.

TheFaerieQueene · 25/06/2018 17:16

The previous owners of our house filled in the swimming pool. Generally, I think it was a very sensible decision. Not so much at the moment though. Bastards.

ItsalmostSummer · 25/06/2018 17:20

I would love a pool and love to be able to invite people over to swim. I wouldn’t mind people dropping in for a swim

Ariela · 25/06/2018 17:40

We previously had an amazingly lovely neighbour whose kids had flown the nest, and although they rarely used the pool it was sat there all summer ready to go - they went on holiday to their holiday home in Italy and we were asked to 'look after the plants and do feel free to use the pool whenever you wish'. Perfect!

In current house there are 2 neighbours with pools and neither fill them/use them What a waste! We have the room for an endless pool, I am tempted!

Pinky14 · 25/06/2018 17:46

I am a smug pool owner. Saw a clip on YouTube of ‘natural swimming ponds’ so me and my husband built one. Fill the edge with plants no chemicals you can do them as big or small as you like one I’ve seen is 2m x2m plunge pool.

Surely any nice neighbour would invite you over! Can sneak over the fence when they are out Grin

PestoSurfissimos · 26/06/2018 10:27

How big is yours Pinky?

JoeElliotsMullet · 26/06/2018 11:50

This thread has reminded me of my lovely, late Aunty and Uncle who had a heated, covered pool in their garden. I went to stay with them years ago during a heatwave (they turned the temp down!) and we just lived in it, it was wonderful.

Feel a bit sad now. And not because of pool envy.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 26/06/2018 15:58

The dog's We've got one a bit like this - may go in it later ;-)
This isn't him us.

Yabu. We have a pool. We invite our nice neighbours round when we feel like it. Because at the end of the day it's our pool. We may for it. Tend it. Clean it. Cover it. Etc etc.

Get your own pool!! Wink

rainbowstardrops · 26/06/2018 16:17

Takes me back to my childhood! Our neighbour had a pool - only a small one as ex council house that they bought but it was amazing to be invited over!!!
Years later and I'm thinking in reality it probably wasn't much bigger than our inflatable pool that keeps bloody deflating but oh my days, it was awesome.

They've got loads of fruit trees there now Sad

FlyingElbows · 26/06/2018 16:24

Just get a lay z spa, get in it, shut your eyes and pretend it's bigger! Bonus bubbles too.

Chattymummyhere · 26/06/2018 16:29

We have a hot tub But I would love a proper pool, maybe a salt water one with a sanded area like on extreme pools. It would be lovey.

Pinky14 · 04/07/2018 10:23

It’s 4m x 7m takes up most of the garden but it saves mowing the lawn Grin
