Argument with friend?

She messaged me to ask to borrow money.

There have been 2 instances in the past where I’ve paid for her in good faith (train ticket, concert) that she then decided that she couldn’t go and never paid me back.

I said no because of these instances and she went mad at me. Now said she can’t afford the holiday we planned to go on (nothing booked yet.)

Just to point out, I live alone so therefore have to pay all my bills and she lives at home and earns at least 6K more a year than me.

If you haven’t booked anything you won’t be going on holiday with this friend. I think you were quite right to say no!

It’s funny how the CFs are always happy to take the money but reticent to return it/honour commitments.

I would probably call her out on who's fault she thinks it is that she doesn't pay people back?

It’s fortunate that you found out now that she cannot afford the holiday or you could have been paying for both of you with little chance of getting any money from her

No she wanted to borrow £50. She was saying she couldn’t afford our potential holiday was her having a tantrum basically ... she knew I really wanted to go and now that’s not going to happen so I suppose she wanted to hurt me.

Back away from this person and stick to your guns!

Is she the only person who's free to go on holiday? If so, tell us your budget and we'll find you something.

You really do not have to justify yourself, it's always ok to refuse to "lend" money to someone!

The easy way is to say you are broke and don't have a penny to spare, but the honest way that you don't want to is fine too
