Just been to the supermarket. Check out lady sneezed in to her hand and then scanned my shopping (not allergies, she clearly has a cold). Also wiped her nose on back of her hand and continues to touch the food.

Not sure what to do with the shopping. Will have to wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe. Seriously nasty. A toddler wouldn't get away with this .

Yuck

Ffs

Honestly want to just throw it away :-(

Why didn't you say something at the time if it bothered you so much? Really... You just allowed it to continue so you've got to live with it.

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2018 19:13

What did you say to her?

And don't say "Bless you" Grin

TheActualRealCinderella · 13/06/2018 19:14

You should have spoken up there and then. It’s too late to do anything now.

Wipe packaging with antibacterial or throw the items away.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 13/06/2018 19:14

I watched a well dressed, beautifully coiffured and fully made up young woman pick her nose and eat it on the tube today.

That was pretty nasty.

Dothedamnthang · 13/06/2018 19:14

This, along with children standing with shoes in trolleys, is the reason why I antiseptic wipe food packaging before opening.

KarinVogel · 13/06/2018 19:15

Yes seriously yucky . But at the risk of sending you over the edge there are probably a lot more surfaces you have touched today that have had even yuckier hands touching them first.

Sometimes I get all germphobic too but then I realise that I can either live in this crazy world and take normal amount of precautions or drive myself mad with it all.

Give the stuff a wipe and try to let it go at that.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 13/06/2018 19:16

So you just stood there and said nothing and now you want to complain. How do you know it wasn’t allergies she could have hay fever or did you integrate her over her medical history to come to the conclusion that it’s just a cold.

Dothedamnthang · 13/06/2018 19:16

Antibacterial wipe, I mean

SabineUndine · 13/06/2018 19:16

This happened to me once. The guy sneezed into his open hands and then continued scanning. I gave him my opinion of his behaviour and walked out without my shopping.

Kursk · 13/06/2018 19:17

It will be ok. Food is either protected by packaging or or it can be washed.

DH picks fresh salad leaves and herbs from the garden and half the time forgets to wash them.

ScreamingValenta · 13/06/2018 19:17

Her manners weren't great - she should have used a tissue - however, you'll never know how many other people might have sneezed on your items, or handled them with unclean hands, before they got to the checkout.

Presumably all the items were wrapped in some way, and you would wash anything like fresh fruit before eating - so there is no reason to think that you are in any more danger of infection than normal. Unless you have a compromised immune system, your body will be used to coming into contact with, and dealing efficiently with, all sorts of bacteria that you don't realise you're encountering. Try not to worry over this.

stellenbosch · 13/06/2018 19:17

The shop was busy, I didn't feel like I could speak up (shop there all the time - no where else to shop)

I know, but it's different when you SEE the germs being transferred over your food.

OP posts:
showerfire · 13/06/2018 19:22

YABU to accept that because the shop was busy

Diamondjoan · 13/06/2018 19:26

Dear god AsAProfessionalFekko!

Packaged stuff I would wash, anything loose I would bin. Probably would have been too shocked/shy to say anything.

gamerchick · 13/06/2018 19:30

Look, if it makes you feel any better just mix a weak solution of bleach and water and give everything a wipe. But tbh cold germs won't live very long on your stuff. Just wash your hands after putting it away

Tbh if you were in the vacinity of her sneeze you'll probably get it anyway if you haven't had that one.

RochelleGoyle · 13/06/2018 19:30

If you were that disgusted why did you leave the shop with the items?

Cantusethatname · 13/06/2018 19:35

A young man on the tills at my local Tesco once advised me he had been up all night with terrible diarrheoa. I have never got over it.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 13/06/2018 19:35

I called a young girl out in Savers for serving me and constantly dabbing at an oozing spot with her finger. As in, see the ooze, dab, no ooze, see the ooze... I was buying kitchen roll fgs.

stellenbosch · 13/06/2018 19:39

I phoned the store and they are going to refund me!

OP posts:
melonscoffer · 13/06/2018 19:41

I cannot use a till with a man serving.
Won't go in to details.
They don't wash their hands.
Yes I know male staff stacked the shelves but I can't control the shelf stackers.
I can control my end result and choose female staff to scan the food.

Etino · 13/06/2018 19:43

Obviously that’s a great result, but it would have been kinder to mention it to her and give her a chance to gel her hands/ grab a tissue. Let’s hope she doesn’t get into trouble.

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 13/06/2018 19:43

Dothedamnthang Are you referring to yesterday's thread about the germogeddon potential of children standing in trolleys??

BrutusMcDogface · 13/06/2018 19:43

melonscoffer really?! Wtaf?! Hmm

melonscoffer · 13/06/2018 19:43

Well done OP.
I think you did the right thing considering the fact that there is nowhere else to shop and you don't want to be seen by the shop till staff as a troublemaker.
A phone call keeps your face out of the picture and solved the problem nicely. Flowers

stellenbosch · 13/06/2018 19:45

I am going to throw the food away though.

It was really revolting
