To think this is unacceptable and disgusting?

Just been to the supermarket. Check out lady sneezed in to her hand and then scanned my shopping (not allergies, she clearly has a cold). Also wiped her nose on back of her hand and continues to touch the food.

Not sure what to do with the shopping. Will have to wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe. Seriously nasty. A toddler wouldn't get away with this .

Yuck

Ffs

Honestly want to just throw it away :-(

She probably had hayfever. Don't be so dramatic. Donate the food to a food bank if you're really going to be such a baby over a sneeze. Its utterly ridiculous to bin perfectly usable food when there are people who can't afford to feed themselves! That's the most unacceptable and disgusting thing about this situation.

Aridane · 13/06/2018 20:13

But food is wrapped or in bags - so whilst not nice, where’S the harm? Baked beans aren’t going to be contaminated

Aridane · 13/06/2018 20:14

A young man on the tills at my local Tesco once advised me he had been up all night with terrible diarrheoa. I have never got over it.

Love your sense of humour Grin

Pinguine · 13/06/2018 20:14

This thread is the most ridiculous thing I have read in a long time. Most of you need to get a grip. Seriously, I am concerned for the future if this is what humanity is becoming. Hmm

Pinguine · 13/06/2018 20:16

Who the fuck wipes habitually food packaging with an antiseptic wipe? That's a fast track to a vulnerable immune system, and may also help contribute to resistant bacteria. Bloody stupid.

Bluetrews25 · 13/06/2018 20:17

Have you thought about sorting out your anxiety, OP?
That is a much bigger risk to your health and happiness than a sneeze!

JavaJava · 13/06/2018 20:23

Shock what the fuck is wrong with (most of) you lot? How do you cope with day to day life? Genuine question. Germs are everywhere. People that have sneezed, wiped their arse without hand washing, picked their nose, had a ball scratch etc will have touched many surfaces that you come into contact with every day. You can't control that.

Gross to see maybe but to throw the food away? Ridiculous

Betsy86 · 13/06/2018 20:24

Probably was hayfever.. she should of used tissue etc yes.
But i presume you paid on card and didnt handle the receipt she touched as you will also need to burn your handbag and purse.

It is gross when these things happen. Customers are equally as gross. Come in buying there cold and flu stuff coughing and spluttering all over the checkout area. Licking fingers before counting out notes/cash/coupons. The list goes on.
People are just gross in general i am constantly amazed just when you think you’ve seen it all something even more bizarre and gross happens.
But I would definitely donate it rather than waste it.
That girls going to be getting a telling off tomorrow atleast let some good come of this and donate the food.

zippey · 13/06/2018 20:25

It will be fine. Very much a first world issue this one.

ParentInCharge · 13/06/2018 20:27

New worker in the local cafe was washing windows (standing on the windowsill in her socks) with her dirty old nasty trainers left on the floor. Fine. It's just windows.
She finished, got down and put the gross trainers back on and immediately went back to making sandwiches. Without washing her hands.
We didn't complain. We were just relieved that the other worker had made our food.

The following week my friend asked for a cake to take away. The new worker licked her finger to separate the paper bag then picked up the cake with the same licked fingers.

This time I complained quietly to her manager and asked that she never serves us again. 🤢 - not envy.

I'm not a germaphobe but nasty stuff like that are the reason I carry anti-bag wet wipes.
In your position OP I would have pulled one out and handed it to the worker with a cheery "Wouldn't want to get sneeze on my food eh?"

I'm glad the supermarket are refunding you OP. Hopefully they will now retrain staff on simple hygiene matters.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 13/06/2018 20:28

@melonscoffer you're aware women also sometimes don't wash their hands right?

Spam88 · 13/06/2018 20:32

I literally don't understand why this would be an issue. The food is either in packaging or it's been exposed to much more than someone's hand after a sneeze.

Fairly irrelevant, but it could well be hay fever. The pollen count is ridiculous at the moment and I'm literally dying, I don't know how you think you can tell the difference between allergies and a virus?

Lweji · 13/06/2018 20:35

If that makes you feel better... Grin

pictish · 13/06/2018 20:35

Throwing away food because someone sneezed near it. Fucking hell.

DurhamDurham · 13/06/2018 20:42

Someone in a cafe was about to put a flake into my hot chocolate that they'd brought to the counter resting on a dirty cloth......I suggested she get me another one and put the one in the bin Hmm

marjorie25 · 13/06/2018 20:50

I would have told her she need to wash her hands before serving me and any one else.
If she refused, I would have asked to speak to the manager.
What I don't see I don't have to worry about, even though I should. But if I do, then I would want something done about it.

SilverySurfer · 13/06/2018 21:06

Oh well, you're done for now OP. If you moved those contaminated items into your house it will have to be burned down Hmm

Alternatively you could get a grip on reality.

How many people do you think have touched those packs after having gone to the loo, sneezed into their hands, picked their nose, put their finger up their own or someone else's bum, all without washing their hands?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 13/06/2018 21:16

Yep.

Can't believe so many on here are horrified at someone sneezing, I probably wouldn't have even noticed. Using antibacterial wipes every five minutes is seriously bad for you, all those chemicals Confused
