Recently turned to a full vegan diet and it suddenly dawned on me that it can't possibly be vegan to breast feed my baby when she is born in November? How did i not know/realise this?

OP posts:

Hairy of palmed are bored this evening Hmm

needyourlovingtouch · 08/06/2018 21:30

Why, because your baby is feeding from another animal eg a person ?

What's your reason for being vegan?
Some choose it as they feel dairy is unkind eg treatment of cows and removing calves at birth. But feeding a baby is completely normal..!

Say what now HmmConfused

🙄

tealandteal · 08/06/2018 21:31

What part are you worried about OP? I can't see any issues as long as you get enough calories and maybe a supplement.

Bloodybridget · 08/06/2018 21:31

What? You think vegan mothers don't breastfeed? Anyway it's your baby taking the milk, not you.

Urbanbeetler · 08/06/2018 21:31

Your own milk for your own baby is happily within even the strictest vegan boundaries.

EspressoPatronum · 08/06/2018 21:32

Less vegan to use formula made from cows milk, surely Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 08/06/2018 21:32
Hmm

Which animals will suffer as a result of your decision to breastfeed?

Claireshh · 08/06/2018 21:32

This is definitely a wind up.

MirandaWest · 08/06/2018 21:33

Of course you can breastfeed. Aa long as you (the animal) is happy about it of course.

DreamADream · 08/06/2018 21:33

Assuming this isn't a troll post.. of course it's vegan. It's all about consent. And obvs you'd give your consent to feed or it wouldn't happen. And, you know, human breast milk is designed for human babies...

SmileEachDay · 08/06/2018 21:33

I mean, unless you’re a cow and the baby is a human, I reckon you’re all good.

FunnyBird · 08/06/2018 21:34

Say what now?

Are you an intensively farmed animal? What harm are you coming to by breastfeeding?

Choccywoccyhooha · 08/06/2018 21:34

Huh? Do you mean that you shouldn't feed your child milk if you are vegan, because then they won't be vegan? Your own milk isn't an animal product. Are you worried about the way you will be farmed?

Or do you mean that as you aren't consuming milk products you won't be able to make milk? You know that dairy cows make milk on a vegan diet of grass, right?

What's the alternative? That well-known vegan product formula milk?

Gmcprime · 08/06/2018 21:34
Hmm
AmazingGrace16 · 08/06/2018 21:35

I asked this question to my vegan friend. She explained she was vegan because of cruelty in the dairy industry for obtaining milk that was not originally intended for human consumption I.e cows mill designed for cows.
Human milk is designed for humans and there's no cruelty involved!
Of course you can breastfed :)
Formula is made of cows milk so...

It would not be vegan not to breastfeed. Formula milk is from cow’s milk.

Be careful though - breastfeeding mother’s often have a calcium deficiency and as a vegan you’d be at higher risk than most.

PurpleDaisies · 08/06/2018 21:37

Your daughter isn’t vegan anyway, even if by some bizarre turn of logic human milk wasn’t vegan.
