Fishfingers cooked in butter 🤢

I’m generally open about food but one thing I can’t stand that DP loves is fishfingers cooked in butter. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this. I agree each to their own and was just wondering if anyone else has this?

Not until about 30 seconds ago...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/06/2018 16:56

I wouldn’t cook them that way - I just grill them.

One of my favourite lunches is a wrap with fish fingers, salad, and tartare sauce!

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 08/06/2018 16:58

I’ve been with him for 14 years and hes cooked them loads of times. We usually grill them but once in a while he will have them with butter. I tried it once some years ago and was almost sick and I like a lot of foods. I just have never heard of it before.

Sorry I’d never heard of others doing it...

I do my fish fingers in a pan in a bit of butter (mmm lovely) because the grill is a PITA to clean.

tccat · 08/06/2018 17:05

Omg he'd be as well inserting them straight into his arteries
Reminds me of my mother who used to butter fried bread. obviously she's dead now

DiddimusStench · 08/06/2018 17:07

That. Sounds. Amazing.

Takfujuimoto · 08/06/2018 17:08

🤢 don't they go all soggy?

Fish fingers need to be crisp on the outside, hot and moist but not wet on the inside.

Can not stand soggyness.

Yes I know it's not a word, but fish fingers cooked in butter shouldn't be a thing either.

SilverySurfer · 08/06/2018 17:10

Doesn''t sound good to me - i cook mine in the oven on the very rare occasion I fancy them - they are dry and crispy which I prefer.

lidoshuffle · 08/06/2018 17:12

I fry my fish fingers in butter. And have butter on the (must be white) bread if I'm buttyfying it. Bliss!

Candyflip · 08/06/2018 17:15

Oh wow. I have a fishfinger sandwich about once a year and always fry the fishfingers (otherwise they are too dry) doing it in butter sounds amazing. Please thank your DH for me, for this culinary masterpiece.

Candyflip · 08/06/2018 17:16

Sogginess is a word tak a very very good word.

Takfujuimoto · 08/06/2018 17:17

I love Butter and I love Fish fingers, together? No, just no.

I love a nice bit of plaice or sole basted with brown butter and some lemon.

But no, just no.

🤢

Whatshallidonowpeople · 08/06/2018 17:17

I've never heard of adults eating fish fingers.

Gottagetmoving · 08/06/2018 17:18

Personal preference. If you don't have to eat it that way it doesn't really matter?

Griefbacon · 08/06/2018 17:19

My MIL bakes them on a tray brushed with butter. Soggy.

WatchoutDSisdriving · 08/06/2018 17:19

People fry fish fingers Shock wow, this is a revelation!

thirtyplusone · 08/06/2018 17:23

Whatshallidonowpeople you’ve never seen the lunch menu of a British pub? Snobbery wins you no points when you’re missing out on one of lifes simple pleasures.

GoldenButtercup · 08/06/2018 17:23

I fry fish fingers, much moister than grilled. In a buttered bread sarnie with lettuce and lots of tartare sauce.

FASH84 · 08/06/2018 17:24

I always cook them in the oven, nice and hot for a few minutes less than suggested. Crisp outside, moist inside, never known them to be fried in butter until now!

MakeLemonade · 08/06/2018 17:25

I wouldn’t cook them in butter but would always butter the bread on a fish finger sandwich so can’t be too outraged at the idea.

Candyflip · 08/06/2018 17:27

thirtyplusone 😂 great response! Who hasn’t heard of adults eating fishfingers??!

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 08/06/2018 17:29

They never end up soggy believe it or not, usually crispy.
@candyflip DP is happy you want to try this, he tried to high five me when I pointed out I think they are vile 😂

If you are going to fry your fingers (and I can see that it would be quicker and easier especially if you are just doing a few for a sandwich) then you need a bit of fat to stop sticking/ burning. I can't see why using butter instead of oil is an issue at all, it's just a personal preference.
