AIBU to name my first car?

So I have bought my first ever car, Ronnie the Renault.

My son (13) has refused to get in it and cringed himself inside out that I have named it.

So AIBU to name my car and if not, what have you called yours?

I had dobby who was a riley elf I loved him sooooooo much.

PlatypusPie · 07/06/2018 21:36

It’s not optional - you have to name your first car !

swimmerlab · 07/06/2018 21:36

We always name our cars and refer to them by name. When we p/x'd our last one I even told the dealer her name so he could pass it on to the new owners!

Mari50 · 07/06/2018 21:38

I named mine. It was a Nissan sunny, I called it Crockett. And to be fair so did everyone else at the time.

FutureDays · 07/06/2018 21:40

Mine was a Ford called Bertie, my current is Kermit

So glad it's not weird. We are at the point where everything I do is embarrassing to him, made worse by the fact I am only 32 and won't just behave like the respectable old mum I should be. All light hearted of course.

Anyway I love Ronnie but I had to ring my brother because I couldn't turn her off Grin

@AutumnGlitterBall my blue Mazda is Lilly.

DP’s Honda is Poppy. Before that we had Lavender and Daisy. Both Micras. Daisy was my first car and I miss her.

OP, only name the car if you are prepared to get overly attached and cry when you have to part ex him.

toastedbeagle · 07/06/2018 21:45

I had a Ford Ka called Oska when I was 17.

Then a Polo called Florence Gabriel Waternoose, a BMW called Xavier (sexy beyond belief), and now I'm driving a Range Rover called Zeus!

Doesn't everyone do this?!

My first car was called Brian, he was my true car love.
I haven't named a car since as none have been as special as that old shitty clio Grin

QuestionableMouse · 07/06/2018 21:47

All of my cars have had names!

PinkFlamingo888 · 07/06/2018 21:48

I currently have Ringo the Twingo and my oh has Carys the Yaris

twosillybulls · 07/06/2018 21:49

My first car was called Rat

CrochetBelle · 07/06/2018 21:50

I've name all my cars.
My first was a blue Vauxhall Agila called Alice. She turned out to be a dud, so we replaced her with a red on called Rosie.

Allice · 07/06/2018 21:50

My cars always have names, my last (white mini) was called Doris as she was a diesel, my blue mini is Boris

mimibunz · 07/06/2018 21:51

My parents named their car Wally. We loved Wally! A little Honda Accord circa 19980.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/06/2018 21:51

Our car is called Hyacinth. She has very sensitive parking sensors and beeps if a pedestrian walks past the side of the car, so reminds DH of Hyacinth Bucket constantly saying "mind the pedestrian, Richard!"

happy2bhomely · 07/06/2018 21:52

YANBU. Mine is called Gloria.

Justgivemesomepeace · 07/06/2018 21:53

I had an old VW Polo named Dixie. She was a right banger but I loved her. Then I had Juno the Uno and never named a car since.

Windmillsinsummer · 07/06/2018 21:53

Of course not I love naming things I've even named my prosthetic leg 😂😂

DextroDependant · 07/06/2018 21:54

I love these names but Hyacinth is my favourite!

I name my cars and will always do it. My FIL was not very approving of me naming my car at first but now refers to her by her name. Grin

Situbo · 07/06/2018 21:57

Always name my cars. They have been called Sydney, Betsy, Martha and Christine.
