AIBU to name my first car?

So I have bought my first ever car, Ronnie the Renault.

My son (13) has refused to get in it and cringed himself inside out that I have named it.

So AIBU to name my car and if not, what have you called yours?

Ive only named two of my cars because their names sort of just came into my head. So I've had Sir Geoffrey and Wicked Jake. And another one called Piece of Shit. For more obvious reasons! They've all been boys though.

Paleblue · 08/06/2018 07:26

I didn't name my previous three cars but decided to name my fourth car Henry. It is a car that suits having a name.

cindersrella · 08/06/2018 07:41

I had a mini which was black and white...
Her name was Daisy

ShatnersWig · 08/06/2018 07:55

All of mine have had names

itstimeforanamechange · 08/06/2018 07:55

My mum used to name all her cars. I don't know if her current one has a name :)

ALemonyPea · 08/06/2018 07:56

I’ve named all my cars, even the courtesy car I had was called Voldemort.

Current car is called Homer, as it has a panoramic sunroof that looks like a bald head.

Winetime0909 · 08/06/2018 09:57

Mine is a Toyota Aygo called Tabitha

ItsNachoCheese · 08/06/2018 10:06

I have a clio called isa, dsis called her car jack and df called her car victor. We ❤ still game Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 08/06/2018 10:12

I had a neighbour who named their cars, plus every car in the street. She was in her 50s and collected soft toys and tea towels.

We have 'my car' and 'your car'. We're relentlessly sensible.

GeoGirl94 · 08/06/2018 10:19

YANBU!!! my first car was a Renault Clio which i called Ermintrude- minnie for short :), my curent car is a Beetle called Bumble :)

EnglishRose13 · 08/06/2018 10:23

My first car was called Ebenezer. I too, told the dealer so it would be called out at auction.

Peugeot 206CC. I loved him, but we just do not get the weather.

SplodgeBear1988 · 08/06/2018 10:33

Me, my husband and both of our parents name our cars. We have had -
Cleo - Corsa
Little car - rover
Macy - meriva
Tabitha - Toledo
Geraldine - rover p5b
Gertrude - Golf (Gerty for short or Dirty Gerty is she needs a wash)
I also know of a Dolly the dumper truck and a Dino digger.

longlostpal · 08/06/2018 10:35

I can’t help finding it a bit twee and cringey myself. In the same category as people who talk about their hollibobs with their hubby and enjoy drink their tea out of a keep calm and carry on mug. Would never say this to anyone obviously. Each to their own!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/06/2018 10:43

IME you either do this or you don’t.

I don’t. I think it’s weird Grin sorry!

ComfortablyGlum · 08/06/2018 10:43

I had an old MG that I called Miles as it had so many on it!

DH’s first car had the reg no ‘SMF’ so that was Smurf.

We had a Ford Escort with ‘LWE’ so he was Lewie.

This was all decades ago and I’ve not named a car for years - although i do kind of wish we did - our two current cars have dead boring reg no’s that don’t make an obvious name. Although when I went to pick up my latest car, the one next to it had the reg ‘KLL’ so that would have been instantly Bill (Kill Bill is a family favourite movie!).

aaarrrggghhhh · 08/06/2018 10:44

My first was Sven the Swedish Saab.

Fond memories.

ApocalypseNowt · 08/06/2018 10:45

Mine is called 'the hula hoop'

RedDwarves · 08/06/2018 10:45

Mine was Naomi, after Naomi Campbell. Grin

missbehaving1000 · 08/06/2018 10:46

Some great car names on this thread! I only ever named my first car. She was Fifi the Fiesta. I got a golf last year and although I tried to think up a name with DD as a bit of fun, nothing seemed right or stuck so it's just known as 'mummy's car'

NashvilleQueen · 08/06/2018 10:47

Never ever has it crossed my mind to do this.

BubblesBuddy · 08/06/2018 10:53

We only named two cars: Lottie the Lotus Excel and Boris the Black BMW. Both pre children so they never got to know any cars with names.

Very early cars in our relationship were: "you shi_ing, crappy pile of fu_ing rubbish"!

Taylor22 · 08/06/2018 11:20

My car is my 3rd. He is Frank the Ford Focus.

Thingywhatsit · 08/06/2018 11:26

I've only named one car - daisy. She was an Audi TT and I loved her. She was old but reliable and lovely to drive. Had to get rid of her when I got pregnant again and had to trade her in. My new car doesn't have a name..,, it is literally soulless. I don't love it at all and still yearn for daisy!

Xiaoxiong · 08/06/2018 11:45

We name our cars but not with names - first car was called the Boat (due to size/steering - was a 1983 Lincoln Continental!! Inherited from elderly relative of course). Second was the Silver Bullet (oldstyle Ford Ka). Third was the Tractor (much-missed Saab diesel turbo estate that was no longer repairable) and current is The Most Boring Car In The World (Vauxhall Astra estate that is so underpowered it's almost undriveable up hills or overtaking).

Currently saving hard for one of the new electric vehicle models launching next year. I may die of boredom in the meantime though.

Grinnypig · 08/06/2018 11:48

Mine is called Rufus. It has a convertible Ruf.
DD1s is called Gavin. We were pondering on a suitable name as she was phoning to arrange car insurance and the call centre chap was called Gavin and it just seemed perfect.
DH hasn’t named his but I call it the shopping trolley as it’s so much more practical than mine.
