To bloody hate flight radar

I am away at the moment with friends in a house about half hour from the nearest airport. It's a huge European airport. They have all gone inside for a snooze and I am outside on a sun lounger to read my book.

Except I can't read my bloody book cos it turns out we are on the flight path and there are loads of planes passing over. I seem to have developed a bit of an obsession with wanting to know where planes are going and have come from so I can't even read more than a couple of pages without having to flick back to bloody flight radar to check. I do this at home too but the planes seem to be every hour or so there. Here it's relentless.

I have already broken off twice from this post to work out that the planes passing are from Munich and Gothenburg respectively. This enhances my life in no way at all yet I can't help myself.

It was Mumsnet who told me about Flight Radar. Who do I complain to?! Blush

Welcome to the club Grin Just don't get yourself a flight radio... That's another level of heaven

Before Flight Radar I used to actually print out the in and outbounds when we went geeking at the airport.

cjt110 · 07/06/2018 14:36

We stayed in Fuertaventura in Feb. Weather was freezing. We were in the flight path, 10 mins drive from the airport. It made out holiday!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/06/2018 14:37

Dunno, but I live near an airport so you can imagine how much time I waste on it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

youngestisapsycho · 07/06/2018 14:39

My DH does this... we are under flightpath into heathrow. He comes home from work, sits in garden and every bloody 30 seconds he yells at me where the overhead plane has come from!

witchofzog · 07/06/2018 14:41

This is not helping guys!! I need you to tell me how BAD it is, not how wonderful it is (even though it is secretly very wonderful)

I have just watched 2 planes fly over en route to Dubai and there is another from Bremen overhead now.

So just so I can avoid it, how does a flight radio work?? Grin

I live two miles from BHX. Flight radar is my friend too!

liz70 · 07/06/2018 14:43

Resist the lure of The Geek. You can choose not to be a Cyber Plane Spotter. Have faith in yourself - you can do it. Be strong!

BarbaraOcumbungles · 07/06/2018 14:45

What’s flight radio when it’s at home 😫

Eatalot · 07/06/2018 14:45

Its that and the lightening tracker if I hear a tiny roar of thunder. There is also a boat tracker and earthquake. Sorry not helping.

bert3400 · 07/06/2018 14:46

This made me laugh and now I wish I lived under a flight path 😂

ConciseandNice · 07/06/2018 14:47

I absolutely should not have opened this thread.

Blobby10 · 07/06/2018 14:48

Whats more infuriating is when the helicopters that are buzzing around here dont appear on FR!!! SO frustrating!!

I did follow the Yorkshire Air Ambulance once - it seemed to land on the edge of a large green area - a park not the moors - then disappeared!!

girlsmum · 07/06/2018 14:50

How do I get it??
How does it work?

madvixen · 07/06/2018 14:51

I do this too. Really looking forward to tracking the Queens Flypast on Saturday. I start tracking as they leave London and then watch, in the garden, until the fly over my house 😀

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/06/2018 14:52

Waves to @TheGonnagle

I'm 1.3 miles from BHX!!! (Yeah, I checked Maps for the distance - I'm a sad bugger 🙄)

witchofzog · 07/06/2018 14:52

A LIGHTENING tracker? Shock We are due storms tomorrow Grin

The planes are still coming. Just seen one off to Toykyo and one from Copenhagen. I am mixing it up a bit now by trying to guess the airline before I look at it on Flight Radar as the landing ones are very low. There realky is no hope for me Blush

Just Google it Girls and then you can either type in your local airport or move the map to where you are, and away you go.

I saw a red flashing plane over my house once and told everyone I knew as it meant it was squaking and there was an emergency. Most people aside from DS (who is still looking for another now) looked at me like Hmm

Oh I can beat you on that one OP - I can tell the company and the plane Blush

Skybluepinkwithyellowspots · 07/06/2018 14:55

Flight Radar?? More info please, I need this in my life Smile

PestymcPestFace · 07/06/2018 14:57

Something barely subsonic was zipping about over us this morning. No sign of it on FR Sad

witchofzog · 07/06/2018 14:59

Haha I would not have a clue about the plane but I could try Smile

Sky I just use it on Google. If you click on the yellow planes it will pop up with where they are going, where they came from, the company and type of plane, when they departed, when they are due to land and the speed. It's so interesting and more than a little distracting Grin

Here's the lightening tracker.... I'm obsessed

www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#x=;m=sat;r=0;t=2;s=0;o=0;b=;n=0;

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/06/2018 15:03

You know there's an app right? With an augmented reality mode so you look at the sky through the camera on your phone and planes going past that you see live on your screen via the camera are labelled...

LionAllMessy · 07/06/2018 15:08

This is the weirdest thing I have read in a while. Why would you care where the planes are going to/coming from???

LionAllMessy · 07/06/2018 15:09

This sounds worse than train-spotting!
