To think my toilet roll is causing my muff to ming?

I'm prone to chronic cystitis and have been for years. At one point my GP put my antibiotics on repeat prescription.

Anyway back to my question. I started with cystitis at the end of last week and got antibiotics within an hour. I took the full course but still didn't feel like it had cleared completely and although not in pain I still have discomfort. It's suddenly occurred to me that at the same time last week I changed my toilet roll to a fancy coconut loo roll.

Anyone else found they have killer loo roll?

I couldn’t use coconot loo roll as I am allergic to coconut, maybe you are?

ScouseQueen · 05/06/2018 08:10

@Prusik you can get 'travel' rolls of Andrex white you can keep in your handbag.

Ontopofthesunset · 05/06/2018 08:11

You need plain white unscented non-recycled paper - the recycled stuff is too harsh if you are sensitive and can really irritate. We stayed in a hotel in Japan recently where the toilet paper was green tea scented - it really burned but of course when you turn up somewhere at night you don't have many options. I didn't realise it was the loo roll honking till the next morning.

Ratonastick · 05/06/2018 08:11

Can I just step in with a recommendation for Waitrose recycled bog rolls? It’s a bit specific but it’s the only one that doesn’t give me galloping thrush.

You still have to wonder which lunatic decided we needed scented bog roll though?

SergeantPfeffer · 05/06/2018 08:11

Yep, anything scented near my bits brings on cystitis- scented loo roll is the devils work!

My favourite “scent” was when one of the conditioners, maybe lenor, brought out a gingko scented one. They have obviously smelled a gingko tree in flower/fruit, they literally smell like crap Confused

WyldDucks · 05/06/2018 08:12

Velvet, I find Andrex falls apart and leaves white bits!

SerenDippitty · 05/06/2018 08:26

I use Morrison's white recycled it causes no problems!

Ariela · 05/06/2018 08:28

Another vote for reusable loo roll being so comfy

Metheven · 05/06/2018 08:31

Why would you want your muff to smell like a Bounty anyway?

OliviaStabler · 05/06/2018 08:31

I love coconut loo roll but it sounds like you are having a reaction to it. Back to plain old white!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 05/06/2018 08:34

The Minging Muff sounds like a quaint tearoom in a Cotswold village

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/06/2018 08:37

I like the coconut loo roll, no problems for me. My bits must be chrome plated Grin

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 08:39

Who buys scented loo roll? Weird.

forumdonkey · 05/06/2018 08:39

Methven, Bounty muff Grin

I didn't know I had such a delicate flower. Bog standard from now on.

It'd put me right off me virgin piña colada to have the bathroom wafting the scent of wee and coconut.

Fintress · 05/06/2018 08:40

I hate Andrex, it seems to have changed a lot. Thank god it's not me that thinks it has fluffy bits, my husband thinks I'm mad. I bought loo roll from M&S, granted it has stars on it but it's far superior to Andrex and lasts a lot longer and the sheets are bigger.

phlewf · 05/06/2018 08:42

I thought I was going mad! I’ve been a bit itchy for weeks and was blaming the fancier than usual loo roll. Didn’t really think that was it but clearly I’m not alone. I think fluffy is the right word. Another mystery solved. I would love a bidet or one of those hose things, but the bathroom is the size of a double wardrobe.

@Ohyesiam thanks for the recommendations for Mannose D I'll look into it

forumdonkey my daughter had persistent UTIs and her Gps put her antibiotics for 2 weeks and sometimes a month but they always came back. I told her she should insist on going to a specialist and finally she got an appointment. She was told they could have an exploratory op but they would likely find nothing or she was offered the option of first trying a course of antibiotics for 3 months. The specialist told her that her GPs had been giving her wrong antibiotics and not for long enough. This was 4 years ago and she hasn't had another UTI since. Perhaps you should insist on going to a specialist. I think as women we are not taken seriously enough at times.

My mother read/heard an article years ago about coloured loo paper and women and I have only used white since!

ForgivenessIsDivine · 05/06/2018 08:45

I would stop using the scented loo roll but would also look at the underlying issue which antibiotics are clearly not completely solving.

No sugar, avoid citrus fruit, eat lots of leafy greens and naturally fermented foods
Take non dairy probiotics, non citrus vitamin C and fatty oils like cold extract olive oil, avocados and I would normally suggest coconut oil but in this case, might avoid.
D Mannose as soon as your symptoms start.

Stay away from scented products and use gentle soaps and washing powders.

worstmotherintheworld · 05/06/2018 08:55

Yes I have had this too. The only way I could get the awful burning feeling to calm down was to avoid toilet roll altogether and use tissues instead as they seemed less irritating, even then I had to dab the area rather than wiping (sorry if TMI!). Back on toilet roll now but definitely no scented stuff and none than leaves bits. If I am out I tend to use tissues rather than risk another flare up. I think toilet paper has chemicals in it than don't help the issue.

Tartsamazeballs · 05/06/2018 08:59

Yeh the shea butter Aldi stuff gives me cyst like bumps all over my ladyparts. It's not a good look. Cheap paper only for me Blush

BartholinsSister · 05/06/2018 09:00

The coconut flavouring must make it ming mercilessly.

DaffoDeffo · 05/06/2018 09:04

poor you

watch out for the scented pads too if you use them - it is now quite hard to find them without scent in them fgs!
