To think my toilet roll is causing my muff to ming?

I'm prone to chronic cystitis and have been for years. At one point my GP put my antibiotics on repeat prescription.

Anyway back to my question. I started with cystitis at the end of last week and got antibiotics within an hour. I took the full course but still didn't feel like it had cleared completely and although not in pain I still have discomfort. It's suddenly occurred to me that at the same time last week I changed my toilet roll to a fancy coconut loo roll.

Anyone else found they have killer loo roll?

Yes!! I had recurrent cystitis a few years ago (every 2/3/4 weeks for months!!) and had 2 different courses of antibiotics and tests for infections etc, the only thing I could think was that I'd been using the aloe Andrex paper, I stopped and not had it again in 3 years!!!

The shea butter gave me bumps too! I've only just realised that's what caused it. I couldn't work it out so thanks to the PP who mentioned it.

BuntyII · 05/06/2018 09:12

I love the coconut and shea butter toilet rolls. Although last month we ran out of loo roll downstairs and I couldn't be bothered going upstairs to get anyway so I wiped with a baby wipe instead (didn't flush it). Ended up with thrush! Envy - not envy

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 09:13

Yes, put chemicals on a sensitive area. That'll work.

ScottishInSwitzerland · 05/06/2018 09:14

I didn’t even know scented loo roll existed! Bloody hell. I will have to be careful when shopping for loo roll. I would have thought it’s quite likely the stuff upset your nether regions.

Bluelonerose · 05/06/2018 09:16

Why is there coconut loo roll? Shock

Who actually sat there and said "Hey I know what if when you wipe your arse it smells of coconut?" Confused

HunterofStars · 05/06/2018 09:17

Yanbu. I got BV from using m and s scented toilet roll last year. I only use plain white loo roll now. Coloured toilet roll gives me thrush too.

Neverender · 05/06/2018 09:19

I can't use coloured or scented loo roll - ever! Not even once...I might as well book a Dr's appointment immediately if I use it

Onlyoldontheoutside · 05/06/2018 09:19

All the scented stuff makes me so itchy.Antibiotics always give me thrush.
Why doesn't it say on packets of sanpro that they are scented,I am suck of having to sniff packs to check.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/06/2018 09:19

YANBU, I think you're probably right.
Scented anything can be a real issue in sensitive mucous areas in susceptible people.

notapizzaeater · 05/06/2018 09:19

I once went somewhere that didn't have any paper, shouted and asked my mum for a tissue ....

She'd given me a nice menthol tissue - took hours for the tingling /burning to stop, laugh about it now but def wasn't at the time

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/06/2018 09:21

Comfy soft 18 roll pack from home bargains, £3.49 i believe.
Decent thickness and sheet size, doesn't leave any bits.
Only issue is sometimes you get a bad roll/few rolls where not perforated right through, or the roll hasnt been cut straight, but otherwise decent stuff for the price.

To think my toilet roll is causing my muff to ming?

I'm going to print that on a t-shirt

Juells · 05/06/2018 09:23

I don't normally have problems, but Lidl Aloe Vera toilet roll did a job on me :(

pigsDOfly · 05/06/2018 09:35

I've never heard of this so I googled it. Among the things that popped up was a mumsnet thread from 2012, so not a new thing.

Why all these things need scent is beyond me. I'm wiping my bum with it and putting it down the loo. Is the scent of coconut or whatever supposed to make us believe our shit doesn't stink.

ToadOfSadness · 05/06/2018 09:35

Irritable bladder feels like cystitis, I have discovered. Cutting out tea and spicy foods, drinking lots of water, not using anything scented at all, including laundry products helped, but stress brings it on, as does a dodgy bowel, the irritation from the bowel will start off the bladder feeling like cystitis again and it can take a couple of months of care and bladder training to get it back to normal.

Scented toilet paper and pads are the work of the devil, so are non cotton knickers and perfumed laundry things, and the new versions don't wash out easily.

bumblenbean · 05/06/2018 09:36

Yup, recently got thrush for first time in many years brought on by bizarre ‘tropical scented’ loo roll bought by DH (“because it was on offer”- wonder why!)

ToadOfSadness · 05/06/2018 09:37

Forgot to say, glucosamine might help but it can also cause heart palpitations so OK to use but just be aware of that.

ArghWhoAreYou · 05/06/2018 09:44

Reusable terrifies me, but maybe worth trying for when you just go for a wee? I was thinking you might want to try jut using a clean flannel and water.

flowerslemonade · 05/06/2018 09:53

scented loo roll from the corner shop actually burnt me, it smelt so strong of like pine or something it was unreal, had to throw it away.

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/06/2018 09:55

I know everyone is blaming the loo roll but is this the same antibiotic you usually take? If so you may have develpoed a resistance so it hasnt fully worked It's not "you" that develops a resistance it's the bugs.

TuTru · 05/06/2018 11:05

It’s thrush

TuTru · 05/06/2018 11:06

Natural yoghurt to get rid of it xx

firehousedog · 05/06/2018 11:22

Natural yoghurt? Hmm

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 11:28

I know two women for whom yogurt did the trick.
