WIBU - Chickenpox

Would really like to hear your thoughts on this as I'm starting to doubt myself.

Baby has chickenpox but he's not coughing or sneezing. We just nipped into the supermarket to buy bread and milk, we were in there for about 5 minutes. He didn't splutter, dribble, cough, sneeze or even babble for the duration and was also covered by a Snoozeshade (www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/SnoozeShade-Original-Universal-Sunshade-blocks/dp/B0039NQ3TW).?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-am-i-being-unreasonable-3260920-WIBU-Chickenpox" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/SnoozeShade-Original-Universal-Sunshade-blocks/dp/B0039NQ3TW). WIBU to take him in the shop under these conditions?

is DS still contagious?

HalloBrother · 27/05/2018 18:32

Yes the blisters haven't scabbed over yet but they are all covered by his clothes too.

If the spots aren't crusted over then keep your child isolated. Why is the amazon link relevant?

Dancingmonkey87 · 27/05/2018 18:34

That’s disgraceful taking him out in the supermarket where people who have suppressed immune systems! It’s airborne! Surely it would have required one person to go in and get those items.

Wolfiefan · 27/05/2018 18:35

AIBU to take a child with a contagious condition to a place where people may be infected?
Did you seriously just ask that?
YABU. Hope nobody dies as a result of your shopping trip. But hey. At least you have milk. Angry

HalloBrother · 27/05/2018 18:35

I went in by myself, the we referred to me and my baby. Thank you for your reply, it only started to dawn on me after. The link demonstrates the shade as it entirely covers the pushchair.

Yes you were. You’ve put vulnerable people at risk

I’m immune suppressed and fed up of people doing this like this

ilovesooty · 27/05/2018 18:37

Well you've selfishly done it now haven't you?

Dancingmonkey87 · 27/05/2018 18:38
Biscuit
ShutUpBaz · 27/05/2018 18:40

Ugh. Another irresponsible idiot.

Keep you DC indoors until they are scabbed over. I despair.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 27/05/2018 18:42

Yes, it is wrong to do this.

But sometimes, for basics like food and medicine, you just have to.

A quiet corner shop is however preferable to a crowded place (you can call, hrough the door, and wait for other customers to leave). And of course online is the best option, unless you are totally out of something it's impossible for you to manage without even for 24 hours.

SayNoToCarrots · 27/05/2018 18:44

Chickenpox is contagious for two days before it shows. Staying away from everyone once you know you've got it is nice, but it doesn't save the rest of the world from ever catching it.

SilverBirchTree · 27/05/2018 18:47

YABU and selfish and careless...I could go on.

I hope no one with a compromised immune system was also shopping.

Take a good look at yourself OP

TrainersItchy · 27/05/2018 18:59

DamnItPatrice · 27/05/2018 19:01

hollyholightly · 27/05/2018 19:03

One of my best friends is hiv positive.

People like you are really selfish.

glenthebattleostrich · 27/05/2018 19:04

Just posted on another chicken pox thread about how ill my neice was with it. She was hospitalised with pneumonia as a complication, had to have drips and a catheter.

But hey, you have milk so it's all fine.

polsha · 27/05/2018 19:04

I don't understand why you thought this was ok Hmm

DiddimusStench · 27/05/2018 19:07

Not another one.... Hmm

Seriously all you have to do is stay indoors for a few days. It’s not that hard!!

Number12 · 27/05/2018 19:26

No. Just No!! WTF?!

FirstNameSurname · 27/05/2018 19:53

So you've hid the baby under this shade so immune suppressed people wont know and so can't even go and get treatment to prevent them from becoming very I'll. Hmm wow, special kind of selfish.
